Apr 16, 2013 - South Carolina Sojurn
On Monday, we left Georgia to spend some time along the coast in South Caroliana at Hunting Island State Park. In order to get there you have to cross a narrow 2-lane, draw bridge. Fortunately there wasn't any traffic coming the other way. The State Park seems to be fairly popular as I could only book 2 nights this week. The campground is located right on the Atlantic Ocean. Yesterday, I took a short walk on the beach as the weather was sunny and warm. It's ashame we're going to have to leave today. While here at Hunting Island, we visited...

Jan 12, 2011 - Hunting Island State Park
We had bright sun today, but a very strong wind. Add that wind to temperatures only in the 40s and it was a very cold day. We wanted to get out and do something, so decided this might be a good day for a scenic drive. South Carolina was our destination--one of the barrier islands near Beaufort. Hunting Island, as the name implies, was a place where locals went to hunt. Deer were abundant and I guess they’re still there, but we didn’t see any today. Hunting Island is one of several barrier islands along this part of the Atlantic. The...

Dec 26, 2009 - Hunting Island State Park
We are staying in South Carolina at the Hunting Island State Park. We had read about the beauty of this island, it is rated as South Carolina's Best State Park, we now know why. :-) We are parked with our home facing the beach. We are enjoying having our coffee while watching the waves. It has over five miles of beach, thousands of acres of marsh and tons of wildlife. We also visited the historic lighthouse dating from the 1870's. It is the only lighthouse open to the public in South Carolina. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the...

3 day trip First trip to Hunting Island. We met up with Ryan and Meagan and went to dinner at Steamers just as soon as we got set up. The next morning we went for a bike ride on the trail. It was a bit tough (only because it was unexpected). We went to the lighthouse and rode home via the road. We went into Beaufort to a Kayak store, then met up with Ryan and Meagan at their new apartment. We all went back to Hunting Island to kayak the lagoon. It was very calm and peaceful. A storm was starting to roll in just as we were leaving. We all...

Apr 29, 2009 - April 22nd-24th...S. Carolina
We booked two nights at a State Park I read only read about. A beautiful, serene, and almost mystical area of South Carolina. Somewhere both of us had never ventured, but very pleased that we did. Hunting Island. If you're a camper, an RV'er, or someone that enjoys true nature and beauty, make it a point to visit this outer island. Situated just north of the Hilton Head Island, and linked by a few bridges from the mainland area of Beaufort, SC, this island is, and will be, a future stop for us...hopefully, longer than what we were able to...
