Jan 7, 2017 - A new year on the road

And the beat goes on… We are almost a month into our fulltime RV life, and I must say – WE LOVE IT!!!! Lol – Steve said to me one day last week, “I love our life!” He said it just hit him that we were actually doing what we had dreamed about and planned for over the past two years! It really is cool. And you can tell from my lack of blog postings lately that we are keeping busy – I don’t know how we had time for work before we retired! I heard another retiree say that several months ago, and they were so right. I guess when you retire you...

2017 Life in our RV

Dec 30, 2016 - 2016 comes to a close

What a start to our full-time RV life! As of today, we have officially been living in our RV for 18 whole days! Whew – what a ride it has been so far! To recap, we left Birmingham on Tuesday, December 13th and spent two nights at Forest Glen RV Park south of Atlanta. Then we headed east to Hardeeville, SC to Camp Lake Jasper, which is northwest of Savannah, GA just across the state line. We will be at Camp Lake Jasper thru January 12th. The main reason we came over here is that Steve’s son Adam and his lovely family live in Savannah. Adam...

2016 Life in our RV

Dec 17, 2016 - purging and a party

Another purge…. Friday was really chilly and overcast here in Savannah so we pretty much stayed inside Mo all day, with occasional brief spurts of sticking our heads out the door. I did some more interior organizing in the bedroom and kitchen, while Steve just piddled around doing Steve stuff. Nothing really blog-worthy happened on Friday. Oh, but I did cook half of a roast in my itty bitty crock pot. The other half went back in the fridge for later. It was quite yummy. We had another chilly night and the electric blanket felt really good...

2016 Life in our RV

Dec 15, 2016 - We've only just begun

And, we’re off! We were up early Tuesday at our temporary “home” of 5 days…The LaQuinta Inn on Hwy 280. Since we moved out of the renovated lake house on Thursday, December 8th, we stayed in the LaQuinta for 5 days – first - because it is pet friendly and, second – because Steve had a class to attend at the Riders Harley Davidson shop in Trussville. Some of you may wonder why Steve (who has been riding motorcycles since he was 12) would be taking a riding class. Well, since we are going to be changing our domicile to Florida, he needs to...

2016 Life in our RV

Aug 15, 2016 - Me and My RV...it takes a village!

I love my new Winnebago Travato! It drives great...I sit up high, great side mirrors and back up camera, good turn radius, and is quiet for an RV...more importantly, my dogs are riding in style! Driving the RV is the easy part. Going from point to point, it is absolutely the best vehicle to drive. I have, however, encountered some issues with the RV...mainly in the hook up for overnights. Here is a taste of what I have experienced with Gypsy Red... - The tv was making a horrible noise while driving. Mom and Ang put a bungee over it, and...

Gypsy Journey

Dec 29, 2014 - Hardeeville, SC

We got a slow start this morning, after a big driving day yesterday. It was a warm morning and we had some fairly significant fog in the early going. We fuelled up with diesel at $3.09/ gallon, a nice change from last year when it was close to $4.00. We had been considering a trip to Nashville, but with the less than perfect weather forecast, and our desire to get down to our place at TGO, we decided to carry on south toward Florida. We drove south on I-79 to Charlotte, South Carolina, before heading east on I-26 towards the coast. We had...

May 8, 2012 - Hardeeville, SC

Hi All, We are staying in a nice campground in Hardeeville, SC about 8 miles from Savannah, GA. So we go back and forth from each state for our day trips. Savannah's Historic District has so many old buildings that are somewhat like New Orleans. We did not go down there in the evenings so I don't know if it is a wild place like Bourbon Street. We do know that there are a lot of bars and pubs down there and of course good food. We went to two forts out of Savannah, Fort Jackson, built in 1808 (Savannah) and Fort Pulaski, (on Tybee...

May 2, 2011 - Near Hilton Head

5-2 Tue Arrived at Thomas RV park in Hardeeville SC to find Rosie & Gisele waiting for us. First thing, we had to go for ice cream, and check out the area. Had Artic Grayling for dinner with them and then played cards until midnight. We’re out’a here this morning for Hilton Head to meet brother Jeff. He’s planning on showing me the game of golf. Just to let me know I’m not as good as I think after playing with all the ole folks in AZ. This trip journal will be stalled for a few days. Back at ya later.

Dec 28, 2010 - Hardeeville, South Carolina

After three days of travel we have finally landed in Hardeeville, South Carolina which is just across the river from Savannah. We are so happy to be here. Three days in a row of traveling is pushing the limit for us and we all, the Peanut included, are more than ready for a day of rest. I’ll try to give the details of our campground tomorrow since I really don’t know what they are myself right now. This turned out to be a long day. Yesterday, as we crossed into Georgia, we entered the Eastern Time Zone. I really like Eastern better than...

Scratchin' the Itch

Dec 15, 2010 - Hardeeville, South Carolina

12/15 – 12/18 Another 146 miles down US17 brought us to the Hardeeville RV Campground in Hardeeville, South Carolina. This campground is located about 12 miles north of Savannah, Georgia. While in the area we checked out Tybee Island and the old 1867 lighthouse. We also visited Fort Pulaski National Monument. This fort was built in 1847 for coastal protection. After being captured by the Union during the civil war (1862) it was used to create a blockade of Savannah. We had an excellent tour guide who gave us an hour tour of the fort.

Nov 29, 2010 - Thomas Hardeeville RV Park near Hardeeville, SC

11/19 to 11/30/10 We arrived at Thomas Hardeeville RV Park near Hardeeville, SC and are staying here through Thanksgiving. On Monday we drove to the town of Bluffton and stopped at May River. (We didn’t know Mays had a river.) We then went to Hilton Head Island and visited the Harbor Lighthouse area. It was a pleasant day to visit the coast. On Wednesday we drove to Savannah, GA and visited the old downtown. We went by The Lady and Sons--Paula Deen’s restaurant. The line was too long to get in, so we just took a few photos of downtown. Then...

Jun 26, 2010 - Almost Home

Our longest ride yet - 647 miles. Left at 7:30 this morning, and had beautiful weather until Florence, SC, where it dumped on us for 25 miles. Actually felt pretty good as it cooled us off! We will spend the night in Hardeeville, SC, just 8 miles from the Georgia border. Would have liked to camp our last night on the road, but it looks like rain. We have (I hope) enabled a link that will allow you to post comments about our trip. Please feel free to do this, but you are under no obligation. We will post pics as soon as I can after our return.
