Dec 20, 2017 - Annual Fort Mill KOA

This is the first night in our trailer since early June. We left home yesterday and took our usual route through Buffalo to Erie, and then south to Grove City, Pennsylvania. We spent our first night in the dog friendly Candlewood Suites hotel. It has been a rough last couple of weeks for me. I started out with a cold, added a nasty flu bug, and now after a sore throat bout, have laryngitis and the cold that started the whole thing. Today we continued south through the Virginias, North Carolina, and then into South Carolina.I am writing this...

Oct 17, 2017 - Carolina's Day

We took our time getting going this morning. We were at a very nice KOA and did some laundry. WOW it was nice just chilling for a while. We got on the path to our next Park. There are so many highways all around here it is crazy. The GPS sometimes even has a difficult time with which one she is on. We are headed south. Went thru North Carolina and are in South Carolina tonight. These states are small enough you can drive in a couple a day. We stopped about 2 and got a couple groceries and had lunch out. Going thru/past Charlotte was...

Our trip east.

Dec 19, 2016 - Fort Mill KOA

We watched the weather yesterday morning, and decided the roads were okay for us to head south. We pulled out of the shop shortly before lunch. Once we got to Hwy 400, the roads were good. We drove our usual route 400-401-427-QEW to Fort Erie. We crossed the border smoothly and continued to Grove City, Pennsylvania .It was very cold, so we decided camping was out of the question. Glenna found a new place, Candlewood Suites, that is dog friendly. It was very nice. We had dinner next door at a new restaurant, Timber Creek. It was...

Apr 12, 2015 - Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA

We left TGO this morning. We were on the road at 7:30, and for us that is an early start. The roads were dry and the the sun was out most of the day. We got slowed down several times along the way, especially on I-26 west after leaving I-95 near Charleston. We arrived at Charlotte KOA at about 5, in time to watch the last few holes of the final day of the Masters 2015. We have stayed at this park multiple times. The wifi is okay, I have the satellite working, so life is good. We didn't get a good sleep last night, which seems to happen...

Dec 20, 2013 - South to Fort Mill KOA, South Carolina

We had a good night at the Flatwood KOA. We were the only campers, and their water system was broken. Luckily we are pretty self-reliant, so we got along fine with their electricty and our satellite television. The Leafs were winners! The KOA has a beautiful amphitheater, which looked a little out of place at a campground. We decided to relax and make today a leisure day. We drove about four hours south through the Virginias’, enjoying nice weather and dry roads through our mountain stretch of the trip. There were two tunneled sections,...

May 31, 2010 - Day 80 - STATE #18 - SOUTH CAROLINA

The checkout in my Augusta Park was 10 a.m...the earliest I have seen. Got out at 10:10. I like my coffee and news in the morning. It was a short drive...less than 180 miles to the Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA but it periodically poured during the whole trip. It began as I started my engine...stopped when I got Hunter's food (which I keep in the basement in an ice chest). I don't know why the weather gods are so nice to me. I have assured them I haven't deserved special treatment, but I've sure been lucky on this trip dodging big trouble. I...

Jan 31, 2010 - to Ft. Mill SC; 7/59

Our starting mileage from Columbus, and for the trip, was 45583 miles. We went to Fort Mill SC and stayed at a KOA there. We ended with 46026, for total miles today of 443. It was very sunny and clear - no fog - but cold. There was snow on the ground from about Charleston WV and there is still snow on the ground here. It is supposed to get down to 15 degrees tonight, so we are just using our tanks and are not hooked up to water. The hose would freeze. I will take a picture tomorrow before we leave.

Oct 8, 2009 - Fort Mill, SC

On our last Saturday in Virginia we visited the town of Galax. It was a very nice small town near The New River Trail. There are lots of shops in downtown. We spent a few hours there and had lunch at the Smokehouse BBQ. On Sunday we left Fort Chiswell RV Park and drove south about 135 miles to the Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA located in Fort Mill, SC just a little south of Charlotte, NC. It was a short trip and the weather was great. The scenery through North Carolina was beautiful. The leaves are just starting to change. The Charlotte/Fort Mill...
