Nov 30, 2016 - Florence, SC

Florence, South Carolina means we get a day off, which means for me mostly goofing off. I have a few maintenance items to take care of but mostly I can rest. This is good because we did over 350 miles on each of the previous 2 days. Traveling to get here went amazingly well since the route was all interstate and we encountered no delays. Atlanta was busy but OK.

Nov 27, 2016 - Back in Florence, South Carolina

We just hung out at the hotel yesterday. I spent most of the day on my computer working on a few projects, like applying for a Medicare supplement plan and a prescription drug plan. We went out for dinner, but that’s it. We slept late today and then drove back to Florence, South Carolina. We are staying at the Ramada Inn we stayed at last week. Hopefully, we will get our motorhome back tomorrow. Weather: low 39°, high 66°, mostly sunny Birds: gulls, brown pelicans, doves, great egrets, turkey vultures, common grackles Wildlife: none

Nov 15, 2016 - Bad News from Carolina International Trucks

We found out that today that the bearings in the turbo charger on the motorhome seized up so we need a new turbo charger. It spewed oil all over the engine, so they are also going to have clean up all the oil. It will take three or four days, but first we have to wait for our extended service insurance company to decide what they are going to pay for. It’s definitely time for a different RV. This is messing up our plans. We are staying at the Ramada Inn again tonight. We had planned to drive up to Fredericksburg, Virginia, after we got...

Nov 14, 2016 - Still in Florence, South Carolina

It rained all day yesterday and we just stayed home. We got caught up on reading magazines and I worked on some projects and did laundry. Today was another cloudy day. It was also another frustrating day. I called our emergency road service, Coach Net, at 7:45 AM. They didn’t have us on the list for service. Two hours went by without hearing anything, so I called back. They said there were a lot of emergency calls that had to be dealt with first. I hadn’t heard anything by noon so I called and spoke to a supervisor. She moved us up on the...

Nov 12, 2016 - Swamp Fox Campground in Florence, South Carolina

We spent the week visiting with Ray and Marilyn. We went to Beaufort’s downtown historic district Tuesday and walked along the waterfront where there is a park and a sidewalk along the water. Then we rode around looking at some of the big, old historical homes near downtown. Tom’s sister Pat came down from Massachusetts on Thursday. We drove to the airport in Savannah with Ray and Marilyn to pick her up and then stopped in Bluffton, South Carolina, on the way back to see the development where Ray and Marilyn are having a new house built....

Our 2016 Travels

Apr 6, 2016 - Florence, South Carolina

Florence will be a 2 night stay, which we planned to give ourselves a little extra rest. I have to admit that I am really tired after all the driving for the past 10 days. Atlanta was a real ordeal, with heavy traffic. Luckily we escaped a major traffic jam that formed right as we reached the ramp for the 285 beltway. Florence is where I-20 meets I-95 and ends, so we will be heading north after this!

Dec 15, 2015 - Florence, South Carolina

Today we had a real adventure getting from Virginia Beach to I-95! Suffice to say that some extra miles were logged! But... Then everything settled down. From here onward it is all I-95 and I-20, then I-10. We are going to be OK. Our campground in Florence, SC is right next to I-95, and I hope the road noise doesn't keep us awake. We are pretty tired, so I think we'll be good.

Oct 6, 2013 - Florence and karen

We are in Florence, sc, saw very little rain but see clouds building thanks to tropical depression Karen. We should experience quite a bit of rain today. It rained in the AM, stopped while we got out and poured just as we were hooking up the car. Drove in rain most of the day but winds weren't a problem.

Feb 27, 2011 - Trip Readiness

You know, getting prepared for a trip is as exhausting as ever. I am handicapped, so my boyfriend handles most of the particulars that go into our old girl! He really doesn't mind, although he does get chippy when things get bogged down. But he gets behind the wheel, and away we will go. So we start out inside the house. Gather up the pills, the food, the drinks and "juices in a cup". Sugar-free mixes bought at WalMart. Jeez, do not forget the dog food! I do put things away when inside the RV. He leaves the slide out so we have lots of room...

Oct 1, 2010 - Friday Florence, SC

As expected the I95 traffic from Lorton to Richmond was heavy with several slowdowns. The remainder of the trip on I95 wasn’t too bad except for one accident closing down the highway to one southbound lane. It took about a half hour to get through. With any adult supervision at the accident scene, it would have taken far less. At least the weather cooperated and we made it halfway home stopping in Florence, SC. The office was closed, but Barb had called ahead and we had a site assigned. Cable TV !!

We spent the night in Florence, SC. Left at 8:10 a.m. Drove to Louisa, VA. and spent the night there in a really nice campground. The drive back into the woods where it is located was really beautiful. These pictures show you. Drove around 361 miles today. Was happy to get off the interstate!

Our Maine Adventure

Jun 26, 2009 - Florence, SC

Temp 98 - 310 miles driven Not sure how many of you are aware, but we have delayed the start of this trip for almost a month. My (Barb’s) mom has been waiting to move into a long term care facility in Bel Air, just outside of Baltimore. Since I have her power of attorney, we wanted to include stopping in Bel Air as we headed north to help settle her into the new place. I got the call on Monday that a bed was available. Unfortunately on Tuesday morning, the assisted living center where she currently lives sent her to the hospital with a...
