Oct 6, 2013 - Florence and karen

We are in Florence, sc, saw very little rain but see clouds building thanks to tropical depression Karen. We should experience quite a bit of rain today. It rained in the AM, stopped while we got out and poured just as we were hooking up the car. Drove in rain most of the day but winds weren't a problem.

Feb 27, 2011 - Trip Readiness

You know, getting prepared for a trip is as exhausting as ever. I am handicapped, so my boyfriend handles most of the particulars that go into our old girl! He really doesn't mind, although he does get chippy when things get bogged down. But he gets behind the wheel, and away we will go. So we start out inside the house. Gather up the pills, the food, the drinks and "juices in a cup". Sugar-free mixes bought at WalMart. Jeez, do not forget the dog food! I do put things away when inside the RV. He leaves the slide out so we have lots of room...

Oct 1, 2010 - Friday Florence, SC

As expected the I95 traffic from Lorton to Richmond was heavy with several slowdowns. The remainder of the trip on I95 wasn’t too bad except for one accident closing down the highway to one southbound lane. It took about a half hour to get through. With any adult supervision at the accident scene, it would have taken far less. At least the weather cooperated and we made it halfway home stopping in Florence, SC. The office was closed, but Barb had called ahead and we had a site assigned. Cable TV !!

Our Maine Adventure

Jun 26, 2009 - Florence, SC

Temp 98 - 310 miles driven Not sure how many of you are aware, but we have delayed the start of this trip for almost a month. My (Barb’s) mom has been waiting to move into a long term care facility in Bel Air, just outside of Baltimore. Since I have her power of attorney, we wanted to include stopping in Bel Air as we headed north to help settle her into the new place. I got the call on Monday that a bed was available. Unfortunately on Tuesday morning, the assisted living center where she currently lives sent her to the hospital with a...

Jun 12, 2009 - Our Trip to Florence, South Carolina

On June 4 we headed out for Florence, South Carolina to attend our niece's high school graduation. On this trip we were accompanied by our 9-year old niece who lives near us. Our family in South Carolina hasn't been home in 5 years so Kayli wanted to go and visit with her cousins that she barely remembered. We spent about $2000 on the RV to get the air conditioning working (panel air and front roof air wasn't working). This would be our longest trip to day -- about 11 hours. Kayli slept most of the trip -- although she woke up for the part...

Nov 20, 2007 - Are We There Yet?

Driving over 1,400 miles while recuperating from surgery is NOT fun! Our mantra quickly became - "ARE WE THERE YET?!" After getting the okay from the surgeon, we packed up the trailer and hit the road, determined to make it to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with Luke. We took our time getting down the coast, making lots of stops along the way. Before we left Zieglerville, Pete and I drove down to Florence, South Carolina, to put all of our furniture in storage. Now it was time to pick it all up, pack it into the rental truck and bring it...

FOUR HAPPY TRAVELERS

May 8, 2007 - arrive at rally

We left our lakeside $10/day campground for a two hour drive to a large grassy field next to the Darlington NASCAR track where we are paying $20/night to dry camp for five nights - no water, electricity, or sewer service. However, this location is a fine one, because we can walk to the races, the hospitality tent, and the vendors without dealing with the traffic that will crescendo this weekend. This rally is sponsored by Escapees, an organization by and for full time RV'ers, which many of our 53 fellow ralliers are. One couple has lived on...

Apr 27, 2007 - You Choose

Our last night from Swamp Fox Campground in Florence, SC; our last night in SC, period. Tomorrow we travel into Georgia, stopping for an overnighter likely on the outer perimeter of Atlanta. We haven't done anything today worth telling & I don't have any great words of wisdom to share. So, I'll leave you with a tidbit that I have been meaning to share for several days now. The SECOND MOST prevalent road sign that we have seen in South Carolina reads: Penalty for Speeding in Work Zones - $200 fine & up to 30 days in jail. The MOST prevalent...

We're Wingin' It

Apr 24, 2007 - Buck & Henry's Day

From Swamp Fox Campground in Florence, SC. We fed Buck & Henry, the mules, their bale of hay this morning, hitched them up to the wagon & gave them the giddy-up to head north. GyPSy Lady had told me that we had two route options. The route that was predominantly interstate was six miles longer than the route that followed the backroads. The six mile savings was not a significant factor, but our preference for the backroads was. That backroad route took us into the western fringe of Charleston before dumping us into & through North...

Mar 29, 2007 - Camping World; Florence, South Carolina

Thursday, March 29, 2007 We were up earlier and Rick called Camping World in Savannah to see if they could look at our problem. They were kind enough to work us in for a 1:00 pm appointment. We were ready to leave at 9:47 am. It was 66˚ with clear skies. We stopped and filled with diesel. Our miles per gallon were 8.2. Much better!!! We got to Camping World at 12:15 pm and did some shopping while waiting for our appointment. We waited in the motorhome for someone to take it to the shop. We saw an RV from Oregon for the first time on our...

Mar 5, 2007 - Drive to Jacksonville

Bought new batteries. Drove to Jacksonville, Florida today. Midway through South Carolina the grass turned green and the trees started to bud. When we stopped at the Georgia Welcome Center we were greeted by the sounds of running lawn mowers and the smell of freshly cut grass.
