May 21, 2009 - Ceasars Head State Park

After doing our chores yesterday we were free to explore Caesars Head State Park today. The park is located near the state line of North Carolina at approximately 3200' elevation. We drove up the mountain to the visitor center where we had a picnic lunch at the overlook area. At the bookrack Patricia found the "National Audubon Society Field Guide to Wildflowers" and used this on the hike. After lunch we entered the "Devils Kitchen" a descent to a walkway which leads to an outcrop of rocks for a spectacular view of the valley below....

May 20, 2009 - Keowee-Toxaway

The weather this week has been prefect, cool nights with lows around 50 and pleasant sunny days with highs in low 70's. This makes for excellent hiking weather. Monday was spent driving around Greenville, we ended up at the Haywood Mall where we needed to pick up a few things including a pair of wine glasses. when we packed up our household belongings the wine glasses were packed away and forgotten. Patricia was tired of drinking wine out of a plastic cup, something about funny tastes. Next it was "The Fresh Market" for some quality grocery...

May 16, 2009 - Hiking & Downtown Greenville

The week began with a hike to Twin Falls and a trail along the Eastatoe Creek Heritage Preserve. A hike that Patricia would not have been able to complete a year ago, Thank you Doctor Matos. Thursday evening it was a visit to downtown Greenville for the "Downtown Alive" concert series. We ate a wonderful meal at Sassafras Southern Bistro who specialize in Carolina cuisine. At the Piazza Bergamo we were entertained by Sol Driven Train, a Folly Beach, SC band that was a cross between southern rock and island blend music. A little unusual but...

May 9, 2009 - Upcountry

We have visited the "lowcountry" and "midlands" in South Carolina And now we begin exploring the "upcountry". The weather did not cooperate the beginning of the week and we had rain off and on Tues. and Wed. so it was chores and a little driving around. The two towns we sit between are Pickens and Easley, It was grocery shopping and laundry in Easley on Tues. Then it was a drive to Pickens where we checked out the small museum which had a wonderful garden with plant and flower identifications so Patricia could recognize the new flora. On...

May 4, 2009 - Move to the Country

We drove the 140 miles to the "Upstate" area just outside Easley, SC today under cloudy and rainy skies without incident. The campground is a private piece of property under development, it has two fish stocked lakes and we are basic alone here. We will be checking out the area, stay tuned.
