Apr 17, 2011 - South of the Border

From South of the Border RV Park If you travel south from VA through NC to SC, then you have seen the numerous signs Pedro put up advertising South of the Border. We saw them 25 years ago when we took the children to Disney World and then several other times traveling down I-95. We never had the urge to stop though. Our neighbors, David and Miles, stayed here and told us how nice it was. We thought it would be a good stop on our way back to VA. It is a nice campground but we didin't arrive until after dark and they didn't have any pull...

Feb 5, 2011 - South Carolina

Today it poured...and poured. We almost decided to wait a day until it cleared, but one day on the road in the rain brings us closer to the Gulf Coast and Florida..and hopefully warm sunshine. The stormy weather that is currently sweeping through Texas is definitely sobering (especially for Super Bowl fans). Some of this weather we are having is probably related. We crossed the border of North Carolina and are now in South Carolina. The skies are clearing, and there is a promise of sunshine tomorrow. We are staying in a campground right...

Oct 30, 2010 - september and october

SEPTMEBER AND OCTOBER September at the Harbor started with a lot of excitement. Around 9 o’clock Saturday night of Labor Day weekend, the quiet night air was suddenly filled with sirens. As always, nosey Skip went out to see what was up. He stood out behind the house as about 15 or so police cars flew to the boat ramp at the Point. Skip went inside and got Cindy to come see what was going on. About 3 houses down we saw our cousin, Donnie, and his neighbor standing outside so we walk down to see if they knew what was going on. They didn’t...

Sep 16, 2010 - Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina

The next stop on our way south was Verona, VA. Verona is in the same area we have stopped in the last two falls, right along I-81 near Staunton, VA. This year we stayed at the Shenandoah Valley Campground, an older campground with lots of trees and fairly close sites, for 3 nights. We met a nice couple there, Drew and Elizabeth. Elizabeth had just bought a mandolin in Staunton and Bob gave her a few tips to help her learn play it. Because the weekend included September 11th, the campground was honoring volunteers and had activities for the...

Aug 30, 2010 - august

AUGUST During August Skip and Cindy were busy doing a few fun things. They kayaked a couple of days. On one trip they went up the Davis Canal to its head water and then back to the house. This was a total of 14 miles paddled, and they were both tired when they returned. On another day they paddled on a new moon high tide and took a short cut through the marsh that is usually dry. They only had to get out and walk the kayaks once, and that was to keep from scratching the bottoms on the shell beds. It was a fun paddle. Also for a couple of...

Aug 5, 2010 - Leaving Pennsylvania further Behind

This was just another travel day heading south and further away from Pennsylvania. Most of the day we just traveled down the interstate the same as we would during any other trip. But by the time we stopped for the night we realized that we were not just in another campground but we were actually home. Home is now what we travel in so in reality home is where ever we are parked. On this particular night home is at Camp Pedro in South of the Border, South Carolina. As we took a short walk outside I noticed that it would soon be time for the...

Jul 30, 2010 - july and the kids

JULY After all the work was done we had a very busy July. The kids- Reagan, Tiffany, Ryan and Anna - flew in from Canada on the 1st. We picked them up at the airport and they were all dressed in a secret code. They all had blue on, and dumb old Momsey and Pops were so happy to see everyone that we didn’t even notice. Finally, Reagan blurted out that they were dressed in blue because her Mommy had a baby BOY in her belly. YAHOO!!!!!!! Cindy almost started a TSA meltdown with her loud scream while Skip just stood there with wet eyes. Must...

Jun 30, 2010 - we are back

WE ARE BACK!!!! We apologize for being away for so long, but we have been busy doing routine things and just didn’t think anyone would be interested in our home life. That being said, we will attempt to catch you up a month or two at a time. MAY AND JUNE We left Oak Haven around the 5th of May and headed for home in SC. We made it a two day trip with a stop at camp Wal-Mart in Hardeeville. That meant that we only had about 3 hours of travel home. We arrived with no trouble and got Baby parked in the backyard, the house unlocked, power...

May 22, 2010 - South Carolina

This is our second day in SC, and the weather has been pleasantly cool. We've turned on AC for 1-2 hours each day, otherwise, outside air is lovely. Nice campground by a small lake, just off I-95, but no noise problem. Owner is a very pleasant young man (age is relative) who has a delightful Australian accent, though he is from England! We are in the small town of Dillon, five miles from South of the Border, at SC/NC border. I had a couple of great photos of Noli (lots of dogs here...all friendly), treeing a squirrel (I could have gotten...

Apr 20, 2010 - South of the Border, SC - Pedro's Campground

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!! We have finally left on this years trip. I can't make up my mind whether to use Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" or Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" which begins "Get you motor runnin'; Head out on the highway; Lookin' for adventure; And whatever comes our way." I'm a little more partial to classic rock but then "On the Road Again" is a little more traditional for RVers? We arrived here at South of the Border, SC (SOB)yesterday about 3:30 pm after a 360 mile day. We don't normally like to drive that far but we were...

Jan 19, 2010 - Dillon, South Carolina

We continue to work our way towards Arlington, Virginia, for Mark and Julia's wedding. We woke up in Florida but are ending our day in South Carolina. Tonight we have stopped at the Bass Lake Campground in Dillon, South Carolina. Although the campground is just off of I-95 we are not hearing too much road noise and the facility itself is very clean and well maintained. Dillon is near the North Carolina state line so there is a good chance we will be in Arlington by tomorrow! We are so looking forward to seeing everyone! Happy Travels, Rebecca
