East Coast 2018

Jul 11, 2015 - Hunting Island State Park, Beaufort, SC

Hunting Island SP is located on the Atlantic coast near Beaufort, SC. This park has some campsites just yards away from the water and other tucked back into the coastal forest. We were lucky to get a spot as late as we made our reservation. We celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary and we got to spend time with Tracy's girlfriend Kristi and her husband Jeff. Jeff taught me a lot about tides as we canoed the marsh and lagoon. Tracy and Kristi enjoyed the beach. We camped seven nights. I would like to return here.

Nov 27, 2014 - Turkey Day in Beaufort

The anchorage experiment was a workout in the rain. We needed a down day and the Beaufort City Dock was just the right place to stop. We arrived mid afternoon and tied up on the long floating face dock. Jean quickly set off for the shops of Bay Street as Bill tended to the boat. We still had some items for the Thanksgiving dinner and the marina provided a courtesy car to either Bi-Lo or Pigley-Wigley; two full service grocery stores miles away from town. Picking up another boater, we headed off to the Pig to restock. The place was jammed...

Dec 7, 2013 - South Carolina

We woke up to the sound of rumble, thunderstorm was in the area and it started to rain. We will be traveling in the rain to St. Helena, SC were we will visit friends. Hercules our rat terrier, is little stressed out. Things rattle in the coach, passing trucks make loud noise too and he does not like that. Coach had engine light on, Pete was able to capture DTC on his gauge but I could not find code explanation on the internet for our engine. We stopped in the closest WalMart and Pete called Coach Net to get some technical support, he was...

Nov 13, 2012 - Charleston and Beautiful Beaufort

There are more photos from both Charleston and Beaufort, and when I have a better connection i will add them. More photos tomorrow when I have a better connection. But meanwhile, a bit about these two photos. The Charleston house is typical for several reasons--it is clearly a small townhouse, close to the houses around it. Charleston was always a city of business and these were homes of prosperous merchants and bankers. To catch whatever breezes may be coming off the water, it has the porch oriented to these breezes. And notice the front...

Mar 20, 2011 - Hunting Island State Park

Time is starting to speed up as we head north, and the soft Florida breezes are already becoming a memory. We are staying at Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina in a campsite just on the other side of the dunes. Palm trees, pines and deciduous trees all share this parkland, and we are hearing more and more songbirds. We stopped in Georgia for one night (at McIntosh Lake Campground and RV Park) but left the truck hitched to the RV so that we could get an early start in the morning. However, we were still the last one to leave!! Not...

Jan 8, 2011 - Beautiful Beaufort, South Carolina

This was a day I could have very easily stayed at home and done absolutely nothing. I didn’t feel too perky when I got up and even breakfast didn’t help. However, it was a bright, sunny day and with rain and colder weather in the forecast beginning tonight, I just couldn’t let this day get away without doing something. Beaufort, South Carolina (just up the coast from Hilton Head) was on our list and with a little internet research Gene was able to learn they had a volksmarch with a 6 KM option. That sounded pretty good so we got ourselves...
