Sep 13, 2016 - Relocating

Tuesday we moved about 35 miles north to Wawaloam Campground. It’s closer to Warwick where the 87th IDLA Reunion is being held this weekend. Wawaloam is pretty big (300 sites), but is nearly empty this time of the year. I guess it’s too early for leaf peeping, although we are starting to see some trees turn colors. It’s probably more from the drought that has gripped New England rather than fall weather. After getting settled in, I headed back to Newport to get some sunset and evening pictures of the harbor, a couple of lighthouses, and...

Jul 23, 2013 - Rhode Island

Rebecca, drove the first part of this short day of only 130 miles from Danbury to West Kingston, RI and the Wamaloam Campground! However, when Dave made the reservation he was emphatically told not to arrive before 3 p.m. as policy was to charge $5 per hour for every hour prior to 3 o’clock… Since it was going to be such a quick drive we found something else to do! One of the last exits in Connecticut is for the little town of Mystic. We found Mystic Village and a great big parking lot for the rig. Mystic Village is a great marketing/sales...

Jul 31, 2012 - Battleship Cove

Today we visited Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. This is a museum of WWII ships. You can tour a destroyer, the USS Joseph P Kennedy, a submarine, the USS Lionfish, a battleship, the USS Massachusettes, and two PT boats. We were surprised by how big the PT boats were and truly amazed at the sight of the forward guns on the battleship. When we finished at Battleship Cove, we drove down to Tiverton, RI to one of the Diner, Drive-ins and Dives called Evelyn's Drive-in. It is a cute little place with seating outside along the river. Sue had a...

Jul 30, 2012 - Our Trip to Block Island

Our destination this morning was Point Judith where we would catch the ferry to Block Island. When we got there, we bought our ferry tickets then wandered around the town. This is a true fishing village and the docks are lined with fishing and lobster boats. We stopped for lunch at Clam Jammers. Both of us had the clam chowder, clam cakes and stuffies. The stuffy is a large quahog clam shell filled with chopped clams, choricio (a spicy Italiam Sausage) and breading. It was delicious. The clam cakes are sort of like fritters. We caught the...

Jul 29, 2012 - Rhode Island Here We Come

Beginning Mileage 24837 Ending Mileage 24904 Wawaloam Campground 510 Gardiner West Kingston, RI 02892 401-294-3039 8.5/10/8.5 Our journey from Connecticut to Rhode Island was short, so after setting up we decided to head to Newport to see some of the mansions. This part of Rhode Island is very hilly and forested so our drive to Newport was pretty. When we arrived in Newport we stopped at the Visitor Center and decided to buy The Breakers Plus combo ticket which gets you a tour of The Breakers plus one more mansion of your choice. After...

Oct 12, 2011 - Wawaloam Campground

Went to Hyannis Port out on Cape Cod. Took a boat ride to see Kennedy compound. Fog came in so we could not see very well. Ethel Kennedy (wife of Robert) had put up a big white tent because she has a yearly fund raiser. Saw Joseph Kennedy's house were everyone grew up and which Ted Kennedy inherited when when mother Rose died. Ate lunch at Spanky's Clam Shack which was very good.
