Caryn and I visited the folks who live on the other side of the tracks today - and nope, there was no feelin' sorry for them! The Newport 'summer homes' started sprouting up in 1826. The wealthy from the South were the first but they lost their Rhode Island real estate during the civil war. The mansions, though, continued to be built - most right on the coast of Rhode Island Sound. We both visited The Breakers and it was the only one I really wanted to see. Jun 22, 2010 - Day 102 - STATE #27 - RHODE ISLAND
I zipped to downtown Mystic this morning and on the way back I stopped by Mystic River to take a couple more pictures. This is just such a scenic area. And I'm glad I got a shot of the cemetery that juts out into the water. Great resting place for an ancient mariner. Caryn and I had a tiring day today traveling to our next destination. We left at 11:30...drove leisurely for 39 miles and it seemed we got to Fishermen's Memorial State Park in Rhode Island a few minutes later. I know, I know, but it marks Rhode Island off the 48 state list....

Sep 16, 2009 - Gloucester, MA to Point Judith, RI
After a great stay, albeit long, in Gloucester, the weather is now ready for us to move again. 9/13 brings us to Plymouth, MA again, but by boat. We wanted to see Plymouth by boat for touristy reasons, even though we saw it by car extensively - LOL. The day was foggy, but fairly decent seas. HC left about 45 minutes before us and we caught up with them just as we entered the Plymouth Harbor. They anchored, but we and V2 went into the marina so we could walk around the town some more. 9/14brought us to Sandwich, MA which is at the entrance...
