Aug 7, 2012 - Heading on vacation

Oh come on! How can WE say we are going on vacation? Well, today is the start of our trip to Wisconsin for the annual BF'er Banquet, a get together with our best college buddies. We've been doing this in some form or other for over 40 years. But there were preparations and last minute things to do. First we bid Uncle Bob and Aunt Pat farewell as 9 of us went to breakfast at the Wellsburg Diner. We took our camper to dump our sewage in Elmira right where the tornado hit last week. Still trees on houses. Then I did laundry while Shirley and...

Aug 6, 2012 - Of bike rides and sick days

It was a mixed day yesterday. Shirley went for a long bike ride with her sisters and friends on a day that featured spotty rain and clouds. She had a wonderful time. I did too until I had lunch at one of my faves, immediately after lunch at Arby's I became ill. I stayed very low and watched the Olympics all day. It was just a stomach thingy and as I write I am fine again. Today is the last day for us at Aunt Leona's as we head off to the BF'er Banquet with our buddies Don and Jeanne tomorrow. We are travelling the scenic route to Wisconsin...

Aug 5, 2012 - We are family

The VanDuzer reunion is in the books for another year. We all had a wonderful time at Round Top Mountain Park in Athens PA. A little over 40 of us ate and chatted on a hot and humid day but there was an excellent breeze that off set the heat. We each did our thing late in the afternoon and in the evening Aunt Pat, Uncle Bob,Shirley and I played Give Me Five. The game board was hand made by Uncle Bob and the girls beat us in the rubber match 3 games to 1. We are expecting strong thunder storms with hail likely later today so I am going to...

Aug 4, 2012 - Back in PA

We left beautiful Letchworth State Park and took the back roads back to Sayre PA to ready ourselves for family reunion number two today. This one is for the VanDuzer family. Little known fact....both Darci and Collins (our daughters) have two middle names. Yes each has VanDuzer on their birth certificates. Shirley, as I am sure most know, uses her own last name which is VanDuzer. We stopped in Avoca NY for lunch. All the times we travelled to and from Shirley's home town we never stopped in Avoca. Then the interstate bypassed this little...

Jul 4, 2011 - Lazy Day

Not much going on yesterday. Shirley did a little more home town visit' I watched the Yankee Mets game on TV in a sports bar. Installed a switch type piece on our rear awning and now the awning is not working properly but hopefully it is no big deal. Shirley's cousin Stan and his wife Sue came over last evening to see us. We had a nice visit and he has an antique car. He brought it over this morning and it is a beauty. Leaving in a little while and heading out to the southern part of Western NY to spend a couple of days in the woods with...

Jul 3, 2011 - Finger lakin' good

The day started out pretty quiet for me but not Shirley. She had an early breakfast with an old high school friend Kathy Buckley and then picked her sisters Leona and Paula up for a trip to the hills to an old family grave yard. I was domestic and did the laundry and packed up some stuff. When the girls arrived back at Aunt Clara's we all went to visit her in rehab. She is coming home Wednesday. Dropped the girls off back at their homes and headed for the finger lakes to visit with our yachting friends Pete and Joanne and Pete's father Bud....

Jul 1, 2011 - Now wait just a cherry pickin' minute

A beautiful day on the Southern Tier of NY and we drove up past Watkins Glen on Seneca Lake to pick cherries with Shirley's sister Leona and her husband Dale. What scenery! We picked a lot of cherries at $2 a pound, not bad. We did however have an encounter with a hidden tree stump and our drivers side running board suffered the brunt. Just a bracket that can be fixed and nothing mechanical. We stopped for lunch in Montour Falls then headed home to Aunt Clara's backyard. The big honkin' dually and camper got washed which makes it the forth...

Jul 1, 2011 - Gliding into home

Started out the day with Shirley having breakfast with a cousin and then we installed an air conditioner into Shirley's mother's trailer. Never did this before but now we have the experience to do it again. Hauled (in the big honkin' dually) a recliner rocker to Shirley's sister Paula's house and if that wasn't enough fun for the day we took off for the wild blue yonder, literally. Drove up to the top of Harris Hill to the Soaring (Gliding) Capital of the US. As a retirement gift Shirley received a certificate to soar in a non powered...

Jun 30, 2011 - Home town sight seein'

REMEMBER TO SEE ALL THE PICTURES CLICK ON THE LINK WHERE YOU SEE THE PICS TO SHOW ALL PICTURES. Yesterday was a nostalgic day as Shirley drove the big honkin' dually all over going here and there to see the ol' home town and it was fun. Neither one of us would ever want to live in NY again but it is always good to visit. Other hilites included a trip up the mountain to the Revolutionary War site at Newtown Battle Field. What views from an area where the good guys won. Then we went into Elmira proper and went full circle with Mark Twain...

Jun 29, 2011 - VanDuzer Homestead

We left Western NY for the Southern Tier and Shirley's stompin' grounds. On the way we stopped off and saw the reception hall where we had our wedding reception and found a Flying J truck stop to dump our sewage. When I went to clean out the sewer hose I accidentally sprayed Shirley with the water. Not just sprayed but soaked her in less than 5 seconds. The look of shock on her face was priceless and I wish I had a camera. It was clean water and an accident and we were able to laugh about it. We are in Sayre PA as I write where Shirley's...
