We visited Salt Springs State Park in north eastern Pennsylvania this weekend. It is named because the Indians and early settlers produced salt from the spring. The water in the spring had more sulfur than salt so the spring was never able to produce salt on the commercial scale. However, the gorge cut by Fall Brook and its scenic waterfalls created an unofficial natural and outdoor recreation park by the local people which protected the virgin hemlock forest from being lumbered.
