May 23, 2018 - Moving Out

Considering all of the running around the last couple of days, I feel lucky we left home at about noon. The big drama today was Ringo. He knows where we getting ready to move back into the rolling house and makes himself scarce. We looked in all the usual places but no Ringo. We brought out his food, but that still wasn't enough to bring him out. I got out the flashlight and started to look in the nooks and crannies around the house and finally spotted him under a chair in the downstairs bedroom or junk room. As I started moving boxes to...

Sep 14, 2017 - Taking a Break

After the weekend with the grandkids it was time for some rest and relaxation. We moved back down the road to Hickory Hollow Campground for a few days before heading to the Washington, DC area. Besides visiting the National Flight 93 Memorial on Monday, I drove around the area taking pictures. When we get to DC we'll be taking Finn and Ozzie to the Joint Base Andrews Air Show. Somehow back in March Finn had the idea that I was going to take him to an air show. So not wanting to disappoint my grandson, I looked for one the we all could go to...

Sep 12, 2017 - Big Spring 2017

We wound up our annual family get together at Big Spring Farm in the Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania on Sunday. Many thanks to Cindy for allowing us to get together at this beautiful location each year. It was great to get together with the grandkids that we haven't been able to hug since we left in February. Oh yeah, it was good to see Kyle, Annie, Shane, Jess and Jared too. We had a lot of fun making chalk drawings on the driveway, making s'mores over the fire, fishing in the lake, canoeing (except Jared who flipped the canoe),...

Sep 5, 2017 - Family Time

We arrived in western Pennsylvania yesterday and stayed the night at Hickory Hollow Campground before moving to Big Spring Farm in the morning. We've stayed at Hickory Hollow many times before as an overnight waypoint or for a few days to visit the nearby 9/11 Memorial. We'll be visiting the Flight 93 Memorial on Monday, the 16th anniversary of that tragic day. On a happier note, we'll be seeing Kyle, Annie, Finn, and Ozzie today at the farm. Jared, Shane, Jess, and Ryleigh will be arriving tomorrow. I probably won't be posting again until...

Oct 20, 2015 - Rockwood PA

Well, west it is. We decided to head about 3 hours west of Jonestown to just a bit east of Pittsburgh to park the house for at least 2 nights, maybe more. Our intent is to visit the Flight 93 Memorial about 30 minutes NE of here and whatever else we can find. If the Flight 93 Memorial doesn't ring a bell, it's the site of the hijacked aircraft that crashed short of it's target, which is thought to have been the U.S. Capitol building in D.C., on September 11th. The trip from Jonestown to our current parking spot in Rockwood, PA was actually...

Jun 20, 2013 - Familiar Territory

Winnie and I left home today for an adventure that will take us across the country and back returning to Delaware after Labor Day. We left Sue behind to recover from her cataract surgery. She had successful surgery on both eyes over the last 2 weeks. She is wearing sunglasses most of the time until her eyes adjust. She also has to take care of putting her Dad’s house on the market. It’s been more than a year since he passed away. She’ll be in New Jersey off and on cleaning out the house making it ready for the market. Once it’s on the...

Jun 14, 2011 - Bedford and Johnstown Flood

In 1967 I lived the summer in Bedford, PA with my parents and sister while Tom was on active duty at Fort Knox, KY. I had not been back to Bedford since then. Since Bedford was only 40 miles away we decided to drive over for the day. It was a beautiful drive along US Highway 30.....the Lincoln Highway. We had driven part of this highway last summer as we crossed Nebraska. Once again the road was steep.....some grades 14%! We past sites from the original Highway 30 as well as some new sites such as the Wind Farm....don't think that was there...

Jun 14, 2011 - Lest We Forget

On Friday Tom and I travel to the Flight 93 Memorial. On September 11, 2001, our world was changed when two planes were crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, another was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Then word came that there was a fourth plane. All fights were ordered to land. However, Flight 93, on its way from Newark, NJ to California, was hijacked over Pennsylvania and turned headed to Washington DC to crash either into the Capital Building or the White House. As the passengers and flight crew were calling...

Jun 14, 2011 - Laurel Highlands, Pennsylvania

Sorry to be gone for so long from the blog. We had no wifi at our campground and very weak Verizon service so I had no way to post my blog. So we left Ohio Amish country and traveled about 150 miles to the Southwest corner of Pennsylvania known as the Laurel Highlands. We had a beautiful travel day through pretty countryside. We traveled through three states....Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Over the years we have enjoyed traveling some of the old US Highways, so we decided to travel a potion of US40, known as the National Highway....

Aug 23, 2010 - Hickory Hollow

It was time to head towards home, and we picked this as our base to play tourist for a change. The campground had lots of space available and was not too far off of the PA turnpike. On the way we discovered that one of the refrigerator access door panels had blown off. It didn't cause any issues other than it was ugly. We bought some foam board and white dusk tape a few days later and patched it up. We visited the famous house Falling Waters by Frank Lloyd Wright. We also visited the sight of the crash of Flight 93, the United plane that...

Oct 16, 2009 - Laundry Day

Oct.16 was another rainy, windy and cold day. After getting all the dogs out for their morning "business" they were happy to come in and warm up. SInce it has been two weeks since we last did laundry, we decided to go into town and do laundry. Found a nice Laundry/tanning salon in Somerset. We brought our laundry in then went next door to a "Diner" from the past. Interesting little place with great food. Seemed as if nearly everyone in the diner knew everyone else there. Seemed to be a community gathering spot which was not very big but...
