Nov 6, 2012 - OTRA - PA - Quakertown

11/6/12 Today was our travel day from Harrisburg to Quakertown where we’ll stay a week to visit with Bob’s daughter and take a day trip to Jersey to visit his brother. A beautiful travel day today after all the bad weather that’s been romping around the east coast the last couple of days. It was a short 2-hour drive and we pulled into the Homestead Family Campground around 2:00. You can still see the remnants of the damage they had here although Donna and her right hand man, Perry, have been working almost around the clock to get it cleaned...

Aug 26, 2011 - OTRA - PA - Back to Quakertown

8/26/11 Got an early start today (8:20 a.m.) to try to beat everyone evacuating from Beach Haven and the Jersey Shore ahead of Hurricane Irene. Stopped at one produce stand on the way and then the rest was clear sailing back to Quakertown where we arrived at 10:51 after driving 105 miles. Dropped Bob at the Q-Mart and I went and did laundry then got diesel on the way back to camp. We got 11 mpg towing on the way home which is great! We’re trying to figure out where to go to avoid Irene. We’re supposed to be heading up I-81 to Syracuse NY...

Aug 17, 2011 - OTRA - PA - Quakertown

9:15 a.m. was “take off” time this morning for our short trip up Route 15 to I-78 to the turnpike and finally to Quakertown, PA. As we neared the Harrisburg, we realized we had absolutely no cash for the tolls on the turnpike so we stopped at one of the truck stops for some cash. Spent about 30 minutes there, weighing the truck and trailer. It looks like we’re still under our weight limits but I’ll have to check to make sure. Pulled into the Homestead Family Campground at 12:45 after driving 140 miles. Boy, you don’t realize how bad the PA...

Jul 20, 2011 - Friends and Family, Tours & History

Quakertown turned out to be much more interesting than we had figured, although there were a few disappointments along the way. We left Harrisburg and headed east; since we were passing right through Westchester, PA on our way to Quakertown we decided to stop at the QVC Headquarters rather than backtracking the next day. Now to some of you it may seem impossible that not everyone knows QVC intimately, but thought there might be some who are not aware that QVC is the largest TV shopping network in the world. It broadcasts live 24 hours a...

Nov 17, 2010 - New Day

About 3am it just POURED out here! I was thankful for a dry, leak-free dwelling, even if it is only 33 feet long! at 9:15am Wednesday, it seems to be sunny. I'll have to empty all the tanks today; get school going, and at some point go in to Bernardsville to pick up John. Our refrigerator is stuffed to the gills with all manner of food, some of it left-over restaurant things. Gotta get THAT all cleaned out! (this is when a dog might be nice - LOL!)

Nov 16, 2010 - A Day in Bernardsville; Thwarted Plans

John took the boys into Bernardsville early to drop the (new) truck off, then go do some work & school at Nana’s. 10:00 was a dental cleaning, then lunch, then haircut for David. The Truck (“BigFoote”) needed some diagnostics done, as there are a few little issues. Laura and I were to get the trailer ready to roll, as the plan was to leave Wed. morning. After getting things cleaner and tidied, we’d meet up with John. Laura was not overly thrilled with this option, especially as she got to clean the floor – it doesn’t tidy anything, but...

Nov 14, 2010 - New Week, Much to do

John spent last week in Chicago, Atlanta, OK (briefly) and overnight in TX. First part business, second part picking up our new truck. He then spent 23 hours straight on the road driving back to us here, near Quakerstown. Everyone is sleeping late - except me. Seems I have some stupid internal clock that wakes me at about 5:15 - undoubtedly programmed by the cat(s). Oh, wait, that would now be FOUR am - drat cat! Sometimes I can go back to sleep, well usually I can. Sometimes I stay up. Not that I'm super productive, mind you. Yesterday we...

Jun 15, 2010 - Day 95 - Philadelphia

I spent the day walking Old Town Philadephia and just trying to absorb all that happened nearly 250 years ago. Our country is really so young compared to other civilizations of the world, but one still feels the ages when walking such historic grounds.

Jun 14, 2010 - Day 94 - Travel Day from Gettysburg to Philly

Happy Flag Day! Imagine waking up on Flag Day in Gettysburg. Amazing. And amazing to walk up the same hill as Lincoln when he dedicated the new National Ceremony in a rather memorable speech in 1863. I spent my morning, then, walking the cemetery. Over 5000 Union and over 5000 Confederate soldiers were killed. Over half were unknowns and are simply numbers. All bodies were unearthed from their quickie graves and brought to the cemetery for their final rest. As in Arlington, I felt a tremendous sense of gratitude and respect for those who...

Jul 29, 2009 - OTRA - PA - Quakertown

7/29/08 Today was a short, easy 48-mile drive 2 exits down the PA Turnpike to Quakertown where we’ll stay while we visit with Bob’s daughter and her family. Left the campground around noon and pulled into the Homestead Family Campground about an hour later. A huge rainstorm had recently passed through the area and there were puddles all over the place. I had to drive over a very soft grassy area on the way to our campsite but I kept the wheels turning and didn’t get stuck. Evidently several people were watching to see how I’d do ‘cause one...

Sep 16, 2008 - Quakertown

We arrived in Quaker Town last night. It is about 30 miles north of Philadelphia and we are booked here for a few days so that we can get some things sorted regarding coming home etc. It is an ok Park...quite a few permanents but we are nestled amongst the trees and the WiFi works and we have cable so not too bad!! Today, we are trying to arrange shipping and travel home. Looks like we will be flying as I cannot find any ships unless we are prepared (or able!) to pay $10,500 EACH!!!! So fling it will be! Hopefully we will go into...
