Sep 16, 2013 - Updates: Miles 74-78

Updates on October 27, 2014: What better way was there to enjoy an unseasonably warm October day than to ride a few miles of the Great Allegheny Passage going west from Ohiopyle State Park? Because there were fewer leaves still on the trees than when we usually ride during the summer, we saw more of the Youghigheny River and some impressive rocks that we had not seen before. The morning tours are all reserved for school trips. We decide on the self-guided grounds tour instead of coming back in the afternoon. It is fine. The house and its...

Jun 14, 2006 - Ohiopyle, Youghiogehney Falls

We went for a nice drive today, down to Ohiopyle, about 45 miles south. Don't they have the most interesting names around here? It was a very scenic drive, lots of forests and some farmland. We passed through a town called "Normalville". I guess they're just normal here. The Youghiogehney River (try saying that fast 3 times), with it's tumbing falls, runs through Ohiopyle State Park. It was not quite hot enough weather for us to give it a try, but there was a rafting vendor along the river that will take you on a white water raft tour...
