Sep 28, 2015 - North East

We have had some really nice visits with folks in the last couple of days. Dottie and Dave are doing well and we had a nice lunch at Bob Evan's just off I-86 near Jamestown. We had a particularly good time visiting with my cousins. Patti, Bev and Gary (all offspring of my mother's sister and her husband) came to Lakeside Campground for a picnic along with Patti's husband, Jeff, and son, Matt, and Gary's wife, Patty. Tonight we met Bruce and Peggy Campbell and Terry and Linda Henderson for dinner at a North East restaurant. It was good to...

Oct 25, 2014 - North East Folks

On Thursday we pulled into Lakeside Campground on route 5 at the Pennsylvania/New York border. We were greeted by John, the owner, and set up in our usual site. Although our stay here has been short, we had a chance to see a number of my high school classmates – mostly at the local Moose Club. We also headed over to the high school where Matt Schultz was practicing with the award winning North East High School Band. Matt’s mom is my cousin Patty Schultz– a member of the King family. The Kings are the offspring of my mom’s sister, Irene. I...

May 22, 2013 - North East

On Monday we made the short drive from Punderson to the Lakeside Campground at the PA/NY border near North East, PA where I graduated from high school. The owner, John, greeted us and set us up with a nice 50-amp site. The Moose Club is a Tuesday night gathering point in North East for burgers and bingo. We met a few friends there last night. Peggy and Bruce Campbell, Brenda and Dave Darling, Hank Lynn, and Joanne (Douglas) Muscarella were there. We had some burgers and Peggy and her granddaughter, Charlynn, played some bingo...

Jun 15, 2012 - long travel day

On the road - out of the gate at 7:15am which is pretty early for us. We couldn't afford to stay home any longer - it was costing us too much money to get ready for this trip. We needed to replace the front air conditioner on the RV, get brakes on the car, a starter for the truck, and replace a $350 surge protector for the RV that got 'fried' this winter ( at least it saved the RV from getting fried). Yesterday while packing I snapped the lock off the refrigerator so that's being held shut with a bungee cord attached to the bottom of the...

Sep 26, 2010 - Return to North East

It has been winefest weekend in North East. We have visited the fest, taken in a football game, visited with friends and relatives, and caught up on laundry. My cousin, Patty Schultz, was at the North East High football game where her daughter, Maggie, was marching with the band. I went to the game with Tony Webb and Bruce Campbell and we were joined by Terry Henderson. After the game we returned to Bruce's house where we were joined by our spouses. Sue and I visited the wine fest activities at Gibson Park in the center of North East where...

Jul 18, 2010 - Class Reunion

Fifty years ago I graduated from North East High School in North East, PA. We arrived at the Lakeside Campground just across the NY/PA border from North East Township on Monday. This weekend has been full of reunion activities. On Friday we took a tour of the old high school building that was converted to a nursing home just over twenty years ago. Although many of my classmates recognized parts of the school, the interior was completely foreign to me. The reunion dinner was Friday night at the Lakeview Country Club. North East is...

Aug 28, 2008 - North East, PA

I lived in North East, PA from 1958-1962 and graduated from North East High School in 1960. I hadn't seen a fellow graduate after 1965 until Tony Webb and I got together in Florida in December 2006. This changed this week when we spent a few days at the Lakeside Campground near North East. Tony has a manufactured home at Lakeside and Bruce Campbell, who served as an usher at our wedding, has a lakefront cottage about a mile east of the campground. Visiting in town from California were Terry Henderson and his wife Linda. We were joined by...
