Aug 24, 2011 - Harrisburg, PA state capitol

The four of us drove to Harrisburg this morning to look at the state capitol. We had a lunch at a nice diner called the Blue Moon (or Tom Sawyer's if you ate outside). We took the 1:30 boat trip on the Pride of the Susquehana along the Susquehana River. The weather was perfect, sunny with a cool breeze. We saw some pretty old buildings and heard the history of the river and of Harrisburg. There were lots of people on the boat, including a group of elder senior citizens in wheel chairs and their caretakers. There are lots of pictures...

Aug 23, 2011 - Hershey, PA

Another beautiful day!! All four of us road over to Hershey, PA (about 50 miles). We went to the Hershey museum and learned a lot about Milton Hershey. He was a very successful businessman, but was also a great philanthropist. He founded and left most of his fortune to a home for orphans in Hershey. We attended a "Chocolate Lab". Our experiement was making S'Mores. Anyone who has cooked over an open fire has made s'mores -- a Hershey's chocolate bar and a toasted marshmallow squeezed between two graham crackers....yum. Each of us made a...

Aug 23, 2011 - Hershey and the Earthquake

How could I have forgotten to write about the earthquake?? We had lunch on the patio of the Hershey Hotel at the Trevi 5 restaurant. We had ordered and were sitting there talking and enjoying the view and the cool breeze. The table began to shake and the flowers in the flower boxes began to quiver. It lasted about 15 seconds or so. Everyone was looking around. Our waitress told us that we were located over the garage where deliveries were made and sometimes the big trucks shook the patio. A few minutes later she came back to our table and...

Aug 22, 2011 - Newville, PA (west of Harrisburg)

We woke in Lancaster to an absolutely gorgeous day. The temperature in the a.m. was 60, with blue skies and an autumn-like breeze. The campground where we were staying was next to a small amusement park. We were as far away from the roller coaster as we could be and the noise was no problem. See the pictures for the view from our site. We may not have told everyone that we traded in old Arvy for new Arvy. New Arvy is a 2011 Daybreak by Thor. We are enjoying the additional floor and storage space. Of course, we are driving around with a...

Jul 31, 2011 - Barry & Sandy's

We arrived at Barry and Sandy's house yesterday afternoon a bit after one. When we arrived, Barry, Sandy, Mom, Dad, Jean and Bill had already finished eating, so we sat down and had a bowl of Sandy's chicken and corn soup. It was really quite tasty. It wasn't long until the talk of family began and Bill said he had been writing for a workshop in his local community center. He compiled these stories primarily for his children, but we would also benefit. We went into the living room and he began to read one of his stories. Jean is a lovely...
