Sep 22, 2017 - New Stanton, PA

We are overnight at Fox Den Acres, we stayed here a few years ago when we had the tandem tow. Sites are long and open but not too level even though they looked to be. Ray was able to manually level us for the night. There are lots of people here and they have alot of weekend activities. The office is an old cabin and people were helpful.

Aug 8, 2016 - On Our Way Home - Overnight in PA

Sunday was our last day in Michigan. We went to church with Nick and then to brunch prepared by Beth, our niece. We had lots of delicious food including an egg dish with bacon, salads, filled donuts and fruit. After saying good by, we headed home to our RV for our last night in Michigan. Our first night in Michigan was seven weeks ago on June 21. We've had a really nice time. The state is a great place for a summer vacation especially if you like water. There are lakes, small and large, everywhere and lots of things to do. We got up...

Oct 6, 2013 - Day 1- 410 miles

Today we got a bit of a late start- we all took advantage of comfy beds and blackout curtains and slept in a bit, hoping that Bri would be feeling much better this morning. His throat was still really raw and he had a fever overnight, so we made a stop at CVS Minute Clinic after breakfast before hitting the road. With a thumbs up for the trip, a negative strep test, and lots of throat lozenges in our glove box, we finally hit the road at about 11am. After lots of traffic getting off the Island and through NJ, we finally hit some open road...

Today started pretty early as we had a 10:00 tour about 40 minutes from the campground at Falling Water. We left here at about 10 minutes till 9:00 just to allow plenty of time. It worked out pretty well because we got to Falling Water at 9:30 which gave us enough time to park, check in and wander through the gift shop. Falling Water was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufman family. The Kaufman’s were a rich Pittsburgh family that hired FLW to design their summer home near Mill Run PA in 1935. The construction took about 3 years...

May 16, 2013 - New Stanton PA

Greetings from New Stanton PA, about 40 miles SE of Pittsburgh. While I didn’t envision us being here at this point in the trip, there is a method to our madness; and madness it just might be. We have decided to head toward Holland MI to…drum roll please…look at a potential new-to-us motorhome. A new house on wheels was not on our list of things to do, but I stumbled onto this one online and it has some features and floor space that we have talked about so we – after a lot of back and forth, hemming and hawing, flipping and flopping and...

May 16, 2013 - New Stanton, Day 2

We ran our errands today, although they cost more than we thought they would. We are smack in between several toll roads. All of the stores we needed were 5 miles up on one of them. It cost us $1.80 each way just to get to the stores. GEEZ, LOUISE! We also got a brief nap in, which was very nice. When we walk the dogs along the creek, we can see all the frogs jumping into the water. They must spend their days sunning on the banks of it. They drive the dogs nuts when they jump. We don't dare let the dogs in the water, because we don't know...

We monitored the weather as we drove into PA today. There is a 50% chance of storms tonight, possibly severe, and another chance tomorrow. The MD area may also be getting severe weather, so we decided to hunker down here for two nights, and drive to our Maryland destination on Friday. Yes, I love storms, but not at night when I can't see what's going on. Hey Santa, I'd like a mobile Doppler for Christmas! As soon as we crossed the state line into PA, we found that all the drivers behave the same way: They come to a full stop on the entrance...

Sep 25, 2012 - Another Off Day

We had intended to do laundry today but since there was no laundry at our RV Park, we took care of some loose ends then went to Greensburg for lunch. We ate at Primanti Brothers, a well known Pittsburg place. Their specialty is sandwiches with meat, cheese, fries, coleslaw and a tomato slice inside the sandwich. We also tried Pirogis, a pastry filled with potatoes and, in this case cheese, then boiled. They were very good. We picked up another prescription at Walmart then headed back to begin to get ready to leave on Wednesday. Later in the...

Sep 24, 2012 - Fallingwater and Fort Necessity

We went south and stopped along the way for brunch at Subway. Then we headed to Ohiopyle State Park. There, along the Youghingheny River, we found two sets of waterfalls. Because this has been such a dry summer, there was not as much water as usual coming over the falls but they were pretty nonetheless. At 12:30pm we took a tour of Fallingwater, the masterpiece of Frank Lloyd Wright, built in 1935 for the Kaufman family. Mr. Kaufman wanted the house built overlooking the waterfall on the property but Mr. Wright decided it would be better if...

Sep 23, 2012 - Pittsburg

This morning we went to church in Greensburg. When we got back, Mona and Paul picked us up and we headed for Pittsburg. We parked at Station Square and headed out for our Ducky tour on an amphibious craft. We saw many of the sites of Pittsburg from land and water. It is a very pretty city which is a nice combination of old and new. The Episcopal Church for instance is old and has been sandblasted to remove the soot from the steel mills. The many new skyscraper buildings combined with the older stone with gingerbread ones makes a very neat...

Sep 20, 2012 - Flight 93 Memorial and Miner's Landmark

Mona and Paul our friends from Florida who live here, took us to the Flight 93 Memorial. This was the flight which, on September 11th, crashed here in Pennsylvania due to the brave actions of the passengers and crew who outwitted the terrorists on board. The Memorial is still unfinished but the wall with a marble panel for each name is standing. In the field, there is a boulder which marks the point of impact. There is a low wall which follows the flight path and in it are indentions where visitors to the Memorial leave flowers and trinkets...
