Sep 26, 2017 - Lycoming plant tour and Little League

We took a personalized tour (only us) of the Lycoming plant. It was about an hour and a half and we saw engines in all phases of production. This is mainly a hands on operation, only a very few robots and it's located in the original location. The production of course is now scaled back but due to super fund issues the plant will most likely remain here. We did see a museum area with very early engines and learned the company started as a bicycle manufacturer, as did many in the early 1900's. They also made auto engines before turning to...

Sep 25, 2017 - Lock Haven and Woolrich

We went to Lock Haven where the Piper Aircraft plant was located and took a self guided tour that included a comprehensive history of Mr. Piper and his inventions including the company that eventually produced jets and has the plant in Vero Beach. Many of the early airplanes are displayed in the hangar. The famous J-3 cub was produced in 1938. On...

Sep 24, 2017 - Williamsport

The drive to Williamsport is hilly with grades, scenic. It's a neat town with a millionaires row, houses built in the mid 1800's during the lumber boom. At one time there were more millionaires here than anywhere in the world. We went to the local museum and it had a lycoming engine on display as well as some info. about the Lycoming Aircraft Engine company. We then took the paddle wheel boat Hiawatha on the Susquehanna river. They provided a good narrative about the canals and lumbering that settled this area. It was close to 90 degrees...

Sep 23, 2017 - Riverside campground

We had a nice drive, there are steep grades as we are going through mountains, we did see a few trees starting to turn, in a couple of weeks it will be spectacular. This is an unusual campground, we are on the outside backed up to the city park, the office has a bar next to it that is popular with motorcycles, there was a live band of 2 at night playing country songs, didn't last past 8 so it was pleasant. We backed into the "pull thru" spot from the parking lot. There are at least 4 rabbits that run around the 5th wheels parked in our row,...
