Apr 7, 2018 - Will it ever be springtime!

We spent overnight on Thursday near Cleveland on the parking lot at Mainline Truck and Trailer Service so we could make an early Friday morning appointment for a Road Performance Assessment for Winnie. I found another way to spend some more money on our home on wheels. The outcome of the RPA was a list of things to do to the suspension and steering to improve handling and ride. The question is how much money do I want to spend on a coach with 183,000 miles on it. Some food for thought. After the RPA, we headed east on I80. We pulled into a...

May 21, 2017 - Shenango Lake, PA

2017-05-21. Shenango Lake COE Park After visiting here yesterday, we decided to return to stay a few nights and set up camp around noon in Site 270. There are no hookups on this loop but all of the sites are on the water and we were able to get all three satellites which made Bob happy. This campground has more than 300 sites, some of which have electric hookups. Most are reservable through the U.S. government Reserve America system but there are always walk up sites that are first come first serve. In looking at the reserve slips on...

Jun 9, 2016 - Niles, Michigan to Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana to Grove City Outlets, PA to Mercer, Pa

Today we left Niles, Michigan and headed to South Bend, Indiana, home of the University of Notre Dame. We toured the Studebaker Museum here and there were some awesome automobiles. The Studebaker factory was in South Bend initially. There was one car in which we were allowed to sit as well. It definitely was worth stopping here. On our way east, we passed the Nexus Factory Direct RV facility, one of the many RV manufacturers in the area. We also passed the RV/Motor Home Hall of Fame, but did not stop. Another RV manufacturer along the way...

Jul 21, 2015 - Mercer, PA

Other than a quick trip to Connecticut for Michael's annual picnic and a couple trips to try to pass the state inspection, we've been parked at home since April. Now we're off on the way to Madison, WI for the Family Motor Coach Assoc. Homecoming Rally. (Just to see what it is) First leg of the journey is 373 miles out I-80 to The RV Village Camping Resort. A little rain and the Pennsylvania mountains but otherwise and uneventful trip. Until we arrived and found the battery dead in the car we're towing. We tracked down someone with a...

Aug 15, 2013 - Mercer, PA

Thu, 15 Aug: We had a wonderful two weeks visiting with Sandi's family. While we love visiting and spending time we do not particularly enjoy New Jersey. It epitomizes all we dislike about big cities: Too much traffic, too fast, too loud, too ... So, it was with conflicting emotions that we undertook our checklists and readied Carpe for the road. But, since the sibs were departing tonite for London and a cruise there was no real reason to stick around. Once ready to roll Bob moved Carpe to the dump area and gave the holding tanks a good...

Oct 19, 2012 - Heading for Pennsylvania.

KOA CAMPGROUND...MERCER, PA. FRIDAY We had breakfast in the coach then went in the house and joined Bill and Marlene for a cup of coffee. They have always invited us to stay in the house, but it's easier for us to sleep in the coach, with all our stuff in there. Our visit here was very enjoyable. This is our 4th visit with these friends in the last 6 years. Our plan was to get away about 0900 to drive our house 291 miles today. This stop is just about halfway to our destination in Lancaster county. We were on the road at 0915 in light...

May 10, 2012 - It's a pleasure to be here in ... where the hell are we?

In 1948, Harry Truman took a real "whistle-stop" campaign trip, traveling by train and stopping at small towns along the way to speak to the people gathered by the tracks. At one such stop, standing on the platform at the back of the train, Harry began his speech by saying "Ladies and gentlemen, it is a pleasure for me to be with you today here in ... " and then, turning to an aide next him, he asked (just loud enough to be picked up by the microphone) "Where the Hell are we??" After about 8 weeks on the road, Hazel and I are heading home...

Thu, 16 Jun: We spent another relaxing nite boondocking in the APS parking lot. But, all things must end and this morning we made Carpe ready to travel and rolled wheels a few minutes after 0900. Today's journey was 161 miles, with mostly rain from drizzle to pretty heavy. Our route took us back to I 99, then north to I 80, and west to Mercer (exit #15). We exited north in US 19 to the town of Mercer, and then onto PA 258, a narrow country road with several bridges marked with a ten ton load limit (Carpe and Dinkum combined weigh in at...

Apr 18, 2011 - Mercer, Pennsylvania

Today we decided to travel the back roads of Ohio from Cambridge to Youngstown before jumping into Pennsylvania and ending at Grove City. It was a relaxing drive through for the most part rather poor farmland. We saw signs warning of horse and buggy although the Amish prefer good farmland, so we saw very few of them. The pictures show a few nice farms, but what really was different was the locations of the farm buildings. In many cases the buildings are almost on the road. The weather forecast was for rain today. Initially we thought if the...

Today is check out day. We went to the Barden's home and picked up Marge. She guided us to Bob's work. After lunch we drove Marge back home and hooked up the camper. On the road heading home. First a stop at the Mercer, PA KOA. We played a few holes of Frisbee Golf and headed back to the campsite. Karen made dinner and we sat together and reminisced about our trip. Then Karen...

Sep 4, 2007 - Travel day to Pennsylvania...

We got a really late start today. But Larry wanted to get a haircut from the local barber & after he returned we decided to rearrange some things in the back of the truck. I worked on Dick's computer for a bit & then we had lunch. So by the time we got packed up & said our goodbye's it was about 2:00. Good thing we weren't going very far. The skies were clear & the traffic was light & we crossed the Pennsylvania state line & arrived at our destination by 3:30. We located a Passport America park in Mercer about 10 miles outside of Sharon....
