Sep 18, 2012 - A Rainy Chore Day
It was a very rainy day today. In fact, by the end of the day, the whole area would be under a flash flood watch. Bill took the truck to the local Dodge dealer for an oil change and to check on a Check Engine light (which turned out to be just some bad fuel passing the sensor). Sue did laundry (Uck!). The rest of the day was spent firming reservations for the end of the trip, cleaning house and doing finances. Guess you need an occaisional rainy day to get the chores done.

Sep 17, 2012 - Gettysburg
Today we headed to Gettysburg. We stopped at the Visitor Center and watched a film about the three days of the Battle of Gettysburg. Then we saw the Gettysburg Cyclorama which was done about the same time as the Cyclorama in Atlanta. This one, of course is the story of the Battle of Gettysburg. Adjacent to the Cyclorama was a Museum which held various artifacts and was partitioned by the day of the battle. In the gift shop, we purchased a CD which is a narrative for the self guided auto tour. The tour took more than an hour and a half and...

Sep 15, 2012 - Philadelphia
We took the long trip into Philadelphia through some bad traffic. We finally arrived at the Visitor Center for the Independence National Historical Park. We were told we would need a free timed ticket for Independence Hall so we got that first. Since it was lunch time, we headed down the street and found a little outdoor cafe where we got - what else - Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches. They were great as were the fries. After lunch we had some time left so went to see the Liberty Bell. The building that houses it contains some history about...

Sep 14, 2012 - Amish Country - Lancaster County
We drove through Amish Country today. It was a little disappointing to see how touristy the main roads have become. If you go back on the back roads, you can still see farmers tending their fields with horse drawn equipment, clothes hung on lines to dry and people moving around in buggies. We also saw one of the many one room school houses that dot this farmland. We eventually went back to the main road and stopped at a wonderful Amish furniture store. The furniture was well built and reasonable. But even in this good representation of...

Sep 13, 2012 - Hershey
We headed to Hershey, PA stopping at a diner for lunch. When we got to the World of Chocolate, we decided to due a four attraction pass. First, we went on the "Factory" Tour which shows how the chocolate is created in the factory but is not really producing chocolate. It had singing cows along the way to spice up the program. Next we went to a cute 3D movie that was more or less about the history of Hershey Chocolate. A trolley car tour of the town was next. There were two conductors, one of whom drove while the other gave us history and...

Sep 12, 2012 - Next Stop Manheim, Pennsylvania
Beginning Mileage 30112 Ending Mileage 30378 Pinch Pond Campground 3075 Pinch Rd Manheim, PA 17545 800-659-7640 9/10/9.5 We were up early and on the road before 9:30am. Most of the drive was not on interstate but U.S. 15 is evidently going to be I-99 and the drive was not bad. The campground is very nice. It is near the turnpike but not too noisy and the sites are fairly level. After arriving at about 3:00pm we set up then settled in to plan our activities in this area.

Apr 30, 2011 - Manheim, PA (April 29-May 2, 2011)
From one weather system to the next, thankfully, avoiding tornadoes. We stopped at Pinch Pond Campground, near Manheim, PA for a few days to explore the area. The campground was nothing special; wouldn't stay again, although there were interesting activities. Pennsylvania Search and Rescue Teams were meeting here. They had lots of dogs - German shepherds, Border Collies, Bloodhounds, and some mutts - on the teams. The teams and individuals and dogs were practicing and getting certified. Someone would hide scents (or "bodies") and the...

Aug 14, 2008 - Manheim, PA - Pinch Pond Family Campground
We arrived here about 1:30 Sunday after a $18.75 trip of 156 miles on the PA Turnpike. It was a pretty drive through the Alleganies and the motorhome had no trouble with the hills. Pinch Pond is a large campground with all the amenities. They have wireless but charge extra for it and my aircard has good reception so I will just use good ole Verizon instead of paying for wireless. I had DirecTV up and running in a bout 5-10 minutes - life is good!!! Monday we went to Hershey, PA, home of everything chocolate. We spent most of our time at...

Jul 31, 2007 - A week in Pennsylvania Dutch Country
Intercourse is enjoyable, we strolled the streets of Intercourse, PA stopping in some of the shops. A pretty town surrounded by beautiful farm country it has become less attractive as the years pass. While not as bad as Lancaster with its outlet malls, with the mini-mall with bus parking and specialty shops side by side are a sign of its future. There are still small businesses outside of town that reflect the traditional lives and crafts skills of the Amish and Mennonites. We had an early dinner at Shady Maples, a giant buffet not too far...

Jul 25, 2007 - Moving Day
Our two weeks at Chestnut Lake our up today so we have to move. We are heading over to Pennsylvania to a park outside of Manhiem in PA Dutch Country. Dave & Lois Haines will be there and we have not seen them since 2001. They sold their home in Pennsylvania and are now in Florida. They bring the RV back up to PA during the summer to visit family and get out of the Florida heat. Taking the scenic route we arrived about 4 hours after starting and parked in the site next door to Dave and Lois.
