Nov 23, 2014 - Rocks & Wolves

Sunday morning, we woke up and went to breakfast with Sandy’s dad. After breakfast, we started heading north. There was a detour on MD-24 at Rocks State Park and we had to go a little out of the way. We followed MD-23 to MD-165 and took the short gravel drive to the Falling Branch area of the park. We arrived just before 10 and had to wait a couple minutes for the gates to open. Once the park opened, we headed out on the short hike to Kilgore Falls, the second highest free-falling waterfall in the state of Maryland. At 18 feet, it’s not a...

Sep 13, 2012 - History Trip To Lititz, PA

From Beacon Hill Camping – Intercourse, PA Today’s objective was to locate America’s first commercial pretzel bakery and where the “hard pretzel” was born. Legend has it that a hobo on a train that ran behind the Julius Sturgis bread bakery followed the smell of the freshly baked bread looking for a job and something to eat. Julius had no jobs but did feed the hobo. In exchange for the kindness the hobo gave Julius a pretzel recipe. As with most legends this hobo story contains very little if any actual fact. No one is sure how the story...

Sep 11, 2010 - Lititz, PA

Another beautiful day in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The morning lows are in the upper 50s and the highs in mid- to upper-70s. Today we decided it was time to travel to Litiz to the Wilbur Chocolate Co. We shop there every time we come to Pennsylvania. This year they are celebrating 125 in business. Once you taste their chocolates, you'll understand why they are so popular. The only problem is trying to decide how much to buy! It's all so good. After we left Lititz, we drove to New Holland, PA. We always enjoy the Amish farmlands along...

Aug 15, 2008 - Lititz, PA Wilbur Chocolate Factory

Lititz is the home of the Wilbur chocolate Factory. Yum! Yum! After sampling several kinds, we found we liked Hershey’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups best. This is very difficult work! A restored Reading Railroad car was open for a tour. Here we learned that the correct way to pronounce READING is REDDING. All those years of Monopoly I said, “READING”. Sorry Kathy and Michelle.
