May 1, 2019 - Lewis Run

We arrived Wednesday afternoon at Bettum's Idlewood Campground and set up in site 19, our favorite site. The campground is located on Big Shanty Road and the road is in rough shape. But that was a picnic compared to the entry road to the campground. We rocked our way down the quarter mile road at two miles an hour. But we made it. On Thursday, Sue got together with seven high school friends at Tak's Inn for lunch. That afternoon we drove into Bradford to pick up Sue's sister, Liz, and went to dinner at a new place in town, the Bradford Brew...

Each year that we have visited Bettum’s Campground there has been significant improvement and growth. Our site, 19, is now graveled and level. Midway on our short trip to Lewis Run, we stopped in Jamestown we had lunch with Sue’s sister, Dottie, and her husband, David. We parked at Wal Mart and had lunch at a nearby Olive Garden. While in Lewis Run we had nice visits with Sue’s sisters, Liz and Helen, and friends, Bev and Ron Vinca, and Debbie and John Place. The campground is on Big Shanty Road. It is a hilly road that I use for runs....

Nov 5, 2014 - Back Home Again in Alexandria

Whenever we can, we stop for a few days at Aunt Shirley and Uncle Allen’s home in Alexandria. We have spent the past few days visiting with them and with Doug, their son, and Elaine, his wife. It hasn’t been a great few days for our waist lines. Shirley always maintains a copious supply of food – especially lots of cookies and other goodies. In addition, as usual we stopped in at Paisano’s for some Italian food. Now it’s really time to head south fast!

It was reunion time for St. Bernard’s High School. Tonight we attended the all-class reunion together with Sue’s sisters, Helen and Liz. We also had a chance to visit with Mona Kay and Jim Sullivan, childhood friends and neighbors of Sue. May 30, 2013 - The Museums

Yesterday we visited two museums in and near Bradford. We had been promising ourselves a visit to the Zippo Museum during many of our past visits and today we finally accomplished it. During that time Zippo bought Case so it is now a lighter/knife museum. Liz joined us as we embarked on our tour. The Zippo-Case Museum is half store and half displays. Sue wanted to buy a paring knife but that was the one knife they were out of. There certainly were plenty of lighters and knives in both the store and on display. But I spent most of my time...

We picked up Sue’s sister, Helen, and went to her other sister, Liz’s, apartment that overlooks Main Street providing a great viewing point for the parade. The parade included a high school band, a middle school band, and a grade school band. All of the volunteer fire departments joined Bradford’s fire department to provide lots of fire engines in the parade. There were also groups like the scouts,...

Aug 11, 2011 - Lewis Run

On Fridey we arrived at Bettum's Idlewood Campground on Big Shanty Road about 6 miles south of Sue's home town of Lewis Run, PA. It's a nice park although located directly next door to a federal medium high security prison. We are told that Wesley Snipes resides in the minimum security section of the prison. Over the weekend we were able to visit with Sue's sisters, Helen and Liz. Helen is struggling with her second broken foot bone this year and the resultant boot has her nearly completely housebound for about six weeks. That didn't keep...
