Oct 23, 2013 - Amish country

About ready to leave here after a couple of days in the Amish country of Pennsylvania, touring gardens and a museum in Delaware, and a museum and Revolutionary War battlefield in SE Penn. We had been to this area of Pennsylvania before but it is certainly worth another trip. Although the local drivers seem to have no idea what a speed limit is for (except for those driving horses and buggies), the signs tell it all. Frequently we saw road signs such as “watch out for aggressive drivers,” “don’t tailgate,” and “leave 2 dots [roadway...

Oct 15, 2013 - Last day in PA

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND KINZERS,PA TUESDAY It was lower 50's this morning early, but the sun was out and the sky clear, so it soon warmed up into the high 60's. After we got ourselves together we drove over to the Sight and Sound Theater to purchase a dvd of Noah, which we saw last week. Got a magnet for the fridge at home....will this be the one that makes it tip over? From there we made a stop at the QVC outlet store, to see if there were any bargains that we needed..there were no bargains. Since the Bob Evans restaurant was in the...

Oct 14, 2013 - Easy Day

ROAMER'S RETREAT CAMPGROUND KINZERS,PA MONDAY-COLUMBUS DAY Of course this is not Columbus Day, it's October 12th, or at least it was until someone decided most holidays need to fall on Monday. It's hard for me to tell that it is a holiday, since every day is a holiday for us in these years. We slept in late again this morning, after nine when I woke to see Edie climbing out of bed. The pace that these folks keep is about to wear us out.....but it sure is fun. The morning was spent on a little trip planning...made a reservation for our...

Oct 13, 2013 - A House Blessing

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND KINZERS,PA SUNDAY This morning the sun was shining when we finally woke up at almost 0930. Must have been the events of the last few days caught up with us. There were a couple cups of coffee each available from our limited supply, so we got away with that ok. Topped them off with a cup of instant cappuccino. After breakfast I got on the computer and did the two day journal entry. By the time that was done and I got shaved and dressed, it was time to go to Pearl's house for a light lunch.....right. Salad, grilled...

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND KINZERS,PA FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. This is a summary of two days, since my computer was out of action most of that time. FRIDAY Friday was rain and wind most of the day. We finally saw the clouds lift a little late in the afternoon. Rigs are pouring in here for the holiday weekend. Next door is a steam engine museum and they have activities there. During the morning I tried to get internet access with my computer, but was unable. After lunch we drove into Lancaster and took it to a Best Buy store to see the Geek...

Oct 9, 2013 - Noah in Lancaster county

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND, KINZERS,PA WEDNESDAY Since we have been booked for something every evening, I am running a day late on posting the journal. Did yesterday this morning. Fiddled with the computer trying to make the new modem work, finally got it going. Finished the journal. We drove over to pick Pearl up, as we were all going to the Sight and Sound theater to see the production of NOAH. This theater is a huge complex. Don't know how many people it can seat, but there were at least 8 buses out front unloading folks plus the...

Oct 8, 2013 - Shopping and eating

ROAMERS RETREAT COMPGROUND KINZERS,PA TUESDAY Pretty cool this morning. Our window thermometer was showing 40 at 0800. The official temp on weatherbug was 45. We were warm in the coach with the furnace running some. Edie left about 10 to go shopping with Pearl. It was time for me to dump the waste tanks, so that was my first chore. Next I prepared yesterday's journal. When that was done I did some research on the net in regard to a better mobile internet device. Our cell service is with Verizon, and I found they have a device that is a...

Oct 7, 2013 - A Stormy day in PA

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND, KINZERS,PA MONDAY We awoke to the patter of light raindrops on our roof this morning..Today the big cold front is coming thru. After breakfast I turned on the Weather Channel to see what they were saying, and of course since there was one thunderstorm someplace in Pennslyvania, the whole state was under a TORNADO WATCH. The talking heads were dancing in glee, with official Weather watches, warnings and reports. I then brought up the radar on my computer, and observed a mostly quiet area from Pittsburg to...

Oct 6, 2013 - A Gathering of Cousins

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND, KINZERS,PA SUNDAY The alarm went off at 0730 this morning, due to the fact that we are going to church with cousin Pearl and Mel. It's a foggy morning but cool. Mel came by and picked us up at 0945. When we got to the front door, we were greeted with a fist bump, rather than a handshake. Contemporary Mennonite church. We had met the minister at the Friday night fund raiser, and we were greeted by him and his wife also. No organ music in this church. Music was provided by a 4 person group featuring a guitar....

Oct 5, 2013 - Lunch in a Firehouse

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND, KINZERS,PA SATURDAY We kind of slept in again today. I was up around 0830 and Edie shortly after. Had a date for lunch at an Amish Firehouse in the town of Intercourse. Mel and Pearl came by about 1215, and we followed them in the Honda, since they had another affair to attend after the lunch. The main course consisted of the menu for an Amish Wedding. Chicken cut up and mixed with bread dressing, Mashed potatoes and creamed celery. Rolls and applesauce were on the tables. This is the menu for all Amish...

Oct 4, 2013 - Down Time

ROAMERS RETREAT CAMPGROUND, KINZERS, PA. FRIDAY. Today was R&R day. Edie did some housecleaning, and I connected the cable TV, put up the dish and got it aligned. Also I did yesterday's journal entry. We were invited to join Pearl and Mel to attend a fund raiser dinner at a Mennonite Church in Lancaster. This fund raiser was for a school that a group of Mennonite churches from various towns built in Guatamala. Mel went there with one group to help build a dormitory for girls. Two gentlemen were playing music on a wooden Marimba that came...
