Jun 4, 2013 - Jonestown, PA
Today we traveled through Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. We are traveling with Clarence's brother, Adlai, and sister-in-law, Irene, as well as "Uncle" Jim. He is everybody's uncle and a WWII vet who is a joy to travel with. In Virginia Adlai hit a deer. It damaged the front of his RV but Adlai and Irene were not hurt. When we reached the campground the guys all gathered around. As you can see by the photos, Uncle Jim supervised. They had to cut the front of the RV to get to the generator and get it working. Tomorrow we...

Jan 3, 2013 - On the road again
We left home this morning on our way to Florida until the end of March. There probably won't be as many entries as on previous trips as we won't be doing as much sightseeing. Tonight we are at the Lickdale Campground in Jonestown, PA. When we pulled in about 4:15 there were only 4 other RV's here other than a few permanent residents. Several more did come in after us. Tomorrow we plan to stop in the Richmond, VA area. We left home this morning with a fair amount of snow on the ground and a temp. of 6 degrees. As we headed out I-84 that...

Sep 16, 2012 - Jonestown, Pennsylvania
The morning of September 16th we left Black Bear Campground and drove 177 miles to Lickdale Campground in Jonestown, PA for a seven night stay. We will leave here on the 23rd and head to Greenbelt Park, Maryland. From there we plan to tour Washington D.C. We didn't do too much here except toured the area a little bit, got another PSA blood test for my urologist at UCD Med Center, got our flu shots at Rite Aid, rode my bike, and did some shopping in Harrisburg, PA.

Dec 30, 2010 - Jonestown, PA
We're on the road again! We left this morning for Arizona. We have a two month reservation at the same park (Apache Palm) in Tempe where we stayed last year. We don't plan to do as much sightseeing as we did last year, so once we get there I will only be making entries if we do something interesting. Our route this year will be to go out Rte. 84 through CT to PA. In Scranton, we will pick up I-81 and follow it down to TN where we will pick up I-40 west to Knoxville. We then plan to head south to Chattanooga, Tn then down through Alabama to...

Sep 23, 2010 - Roadside Service, Part II
So, for the rest of the story. With the spare tire on, Gene gets to start torquing that wheel. Are there any convenient places to pull off the road? Of course not. Are there rest areas close? Of course not. In Connecticut, I assume because there aren’t an abundance of rest areas, there are unofficial parking areas. The truckers know where they are; we didn’t. It seemed like every time we stopped to torque, risking life and limb on the shoulder of the road, we would come to one of those parking areas within a couple of miles. By the grace of...

Aug 18, 2010 - LICKDALE RV PARK
Hi everybody. I'm staying at a very nice campground about 10 miles from Hershey PA. The sites are nice and level and they have a very nice General Store that also serves quite a few meal choices. The store has a lovely, big front porch with tables and chairs and rocking chairs for anyone who wants to "sit a spell". They also have a free shuttle to Hershey Park or to the Hollywood Casino attached to the Penn National Racetrack. Sam and I have just sort of relaxed since pulling in here on Sunday so, yesterday, I made arragements to take the...

May 15, 2008 - Keep on Driving!
We just kept on driving today and really enjoyed the lovely countryside. This part of the country is so beautiful. Today we finished driving through Virginia – West Virginia – Maryland – and into Pennsylvania, where we are tonight. We are spending the night at the Lickdale Campground in Jonestown, Pennsylvania. Coming through Pennsylvania today we took a side trip to drive through the town of Hershey. You know that I am a chocolate lover and the thought of driving through a town dedicated to chocolate was just too tempting to pass up....

Oct 27, 2007 - Leah's Log: Koolest Over All
This campsite is the coolest one we've been to so far. It is called KOA and we came on the right day. Today there were Halloween activities going on and we did them. First, there was a costume contest and James went with his evil Spiderman costume. He didn't win first prize, but he won some glowing mouthpieces and glowing sticks. Then he went trick-or-treating in a group with other people and got tons of candy. Afterwards he was very satisfied with what he got. Later,Sarah and I went on the haunted hayride that was going on. There was...

Jun 14, 2006 - Jonestown, Pa
We left Wells Maine and headed for Harrisburg Pa. We stopped at the KOA in Jonestown PA. The traffic was bad through Connecticut and Massachusetts. Since it was raining the whole time, I don't look forward of driving that section of road anytime soon. We ended up doing laundry before eating dinner.
