Jun 2, 2019 - Fairview, Penn. - West Haven at Lake Erie

We arrived at "West Haven at Lake Erie RV Park & Family Campground" in Fairview, Pennsylvania around 3:30 P.M. today. It's a beautiful park with our site backed up to a small pond. The owners are a really nice couple that were very cordial and interested in where we were from. After parking we attempted to put out the kitchen slide and it made a grinding noise and that was it. No movement at all. So now we cannot get to most of our pots and pans to do any cooking. I was able to get the small pot and frying pan out. At least we can get to...

Sitting in Erie PA at Presquot Isle Casino. Our first Casino camping. No time or inclination really to check out the casino. It has been a fabulous weekend. Saturday and Sunday we struggled through laundry all weekend at my sisters! Sunday we attended my nephew Jeff's memorial lacrosse tournament. Jeff died 11 years ago pre lacrosse game. My sister has a tournament yearly to raise money for inner city Rochester kids. Most inspiring was chatting with a scholarship recipient from Somalia. She shared with me her very violent life in Somalia....

Florida 2017

Apr 24, 2017 - Erie HO

We forgot to mention a few things about the night of the last posting. It was a very scenic drive from the highway to the campground. We were parked by a man-made lake and behind us were homes where one person had just got 2 sheep… interesting area… the vet up the street had 2 ram sheep mowing his lawn… hmmmm next to a Bouvier guard dog, the rams look like a very economic, home guard system. Waking up Sunday morning was really nice with the sun rising over the lake. By the time we got on the road, the lake was lined with people fishing...

Texas Again

Sep 25, 2016 - Lake Erie

Very sunny day as we drove through Maryland and into Pennsylvania but there is now a refreshing chill in the air. We have been through seven states plus DC and we have not seen a single sign, banner or advert in support of Clinton apart from the one on my bag. Prepare yourselves as we have seen dozens of Trump ones outside homes, on cars and on billboards!! Hopefully we can watch the live debate tomorrow- should be fun.

Our Year Out

Sep 14, 2016 - Erie Maritime Museum and Niagara

Went to the Maritime Museum which is home to the "Niagara". This is a reproduction of the ship that Oliver H. Perry transferred his flag during the Battle of Lake Erie (War of 1812)... His original flag ship the "Lawrence" was sunk by the British. From there he led his fleet on to victory... the British subsequently abandoned the Great Lakes area and finally "gave up the fight" to concentrate on battling Napoleon. Interesting ship: no wheel, just a rudder. shallow draft necessitated having low overheads (had to bend over while below decks).

Sep 11, 2016 - Night at the Vineyard in Northeast PA

Using the Harvest Host club we stayed for "free" at the Southshore Vineyards in Northeast PA. The name "North East" seems to be a misnomer since the borough is located in extreme northwestern Pennsylvania, but it is so named for its northeastern-most location within Erie County.

Jun 20, 2016 - Back from Texas and Off to Erie

I arrived back in Grantsville, MD late Saturday from my work trip to Houston, TX to pick up Sue, Ringo, and Winnie. Thanks to Cindy for letting Sue and Winnie stay at her house. Sue helped Cindy with her litter of lab puppies. It started with 8 puppies when I left and there were 5 left on Saturday. I told Sue before I left that there weren't going to be an puppies leaving with us when we left Grantsville. So far I haven't seen any. When we were in Texas last year I found a beer that I really liked - Shiner Prickly Pear. Its a summer...

Jul 20, 2015 - From Makinaw City MI to Erie, PA

Days 19 – 21 (July 9th through July 11th) Manistee, MI We left Mackinac City July 9th and traveled 162 miles to Manistee, MI. Brian wanted to see the sand dunes: There are large sand dunes at several locations along the coast of Lake Michigan; those at Silver Lake are the largest fresh water sand dunes in the world. We stopped at the Best Buy in Traverse City and purchased a boom box to listen on stories on CD; the player in our truck would not load and Brian was having difficulty finding a replacement as Ford no longer produces our model...
