May 12, 2018 - Home again

Well, friends, we are home to grass cutting and flower bed weeding and, of course, our friends - the best part about coming home. Overall, though short, a very nice trip at a nice time of year. But, looking forward to June6th and our trip to Paris and the river cruise through Provence in France. Can't wait! Joanne

Jul 14, 2017 - Home Again

2017-07-14.Home Again It occurred to me today, as we were sitting at a campground in Gettysburg, sipping Mojitos, that I had not completed the travel journal with an "ending". Well, we returned to Doylestown and Pine Mill Circle on May 24th. Thankfully, the grass wasn't too high and the weeds had been chopped down somewhat. Still, there was alot to do around the house and the inevitable "clean out" of the RV and, I returned to work. On a really cool note, for the first time in the 28 years I have lived in our house, we had an oriole family...

Jun 19, 2016 - Home Again

Well, all good things must come to an end and on May 27, 2016, we arrived back home. Thankfully, Pete, our lawn guru, had weeded the flower beds so the yard looked pretty good. The peonies and irises were blooming and the grass was a lovely green color. While we were gone, the birds had a field day. Since our bird feeder was not being filled, a house wren pair decided it would make a good nest. They laid 6 small brown eggs and now, there are 4 very noisy hatchlings in the feeder. A pair of chickadees laid their eggs in a cat shaped bird...

Nov 27, 2014 - Peace Valley

Thursday was Thanksgiving and by now, the snow had ended. The roads were cleared so in the morning, Sandy and I headed to Peace Valley for a walk around Lake Galena. We parked at the Peace Valley Nature Center and started walking the hike/bike path around the lake. It was a chilly morning, but the sky was clear and the views of the lake were great. We saw large numbers of Canada geese flying through the air and floating across the lake. Despite the snow and holiday, there were quite a few other people on the trail this morning. When we...

Nov 26, 2014 - Snow in Doylestown

Wednesday, the forecast was for a lot of snow - 8 to 12 inches. It turns out we didn’t get that much, maybe 2 or 3 inches, but had preemptively canceled our waterfall plans for the day. But I still wasn’t going to be stuck around the house all day. While Sandy went shopping with her mom and aunt, I headed to Doylestown’s Central Park and walked around for an hour or so in the snow. It was coming down pretty good, but the temperature was above freezing so the snow was very wet and heavy. In an hour or so, I was pretty wet and cold and ready...

Sep 6, 2014 - target arrival: sept 15th

according to my trusty ‘google maps directions thingy’, it says i am just under 100 walking miles from coney island. i’m assuming more like 120, but even at that, i expect to reach coney island on the afternoon of monday, september 15th if all goes well. which would be good timing, since my wife is flying in sunday night and wants to see me finish! (she was there at the start.) i’ve heard some other people want to be there, too, so that’s why i’m announcing my expected arrival now. (i hate to declare victory before i actually get there, but...

Jul 21, 2013 - Come and Gone to Extremes - The End

We spent our last night on the road where else? In a Walmart parking lot in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Bob was in hog heaven when I brought him a brand new bag of Herr’s potato chips and while walking Dixie and exploring the area, I found a Bon-Ton! Wow! Really got the feeling that we were coming home. Of course, when we got home, we saw that the weeds were in full bloom in the flower beds but the grass was cut and the house was clean! When you have lived in a 40 ft. space for three months with one small toilet and a husband who thinks that the...

Sep 30, 2011 - Closing Thoughts

I don't think we had one "favorite place". Both of us agree, however, that the upper peninsula of Michigan is somewhere we would return to without hesitation. We enjoyed Grand Marais, Munising and Copper Harbor and would definitely return since there is alot to do for us there. The Door Peninsula was lovely along its coastlines but the interior was flat farmland. However, while there were many interesting places to hike and kayak, the touristy feel would prevent us from going back unless it was September or October and then, it would be...

Nov 20, 2010 - Doylestown, Pennsylvania

We arrived home last week to a mountain of mail. It was very difficult going back to work on Wednesday and I am still catching up. We spent the last two weekends winterizing the coach and cleaning out all of the cupboards and closets, washing all the linens and generally purging the coach of unused items. It is sad to put Pottsluck to bed for the winter but spring will come soon enough and we'll be getting the travel bug again. Thanks to the many people who made our trip so wonderful; especially those at home who took care of my business...
