Aug 28, 2015 - Amish Country, Hershey, and Philadelphia

We are on the back side of a hill from the cell towers, therefore our cell signals do not work much at all here with phones hit and miss and hotspot nonexistent, so the last 3 days are summarized below. Tuesday was a driving day with us planning to visit all the quilt shops, 15 of them noted, whoop whoop. We started by going through in Blue Ball, Yoders restaurant and market, continuing to New Holland where we were going to visit our first quilt shop, Witmer’s Quilt Shop. Witmer’s is in a lady’s home, she must be 80 or more and has operated...

May 12, 2012 - Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch Farms of Lancaster County

This morning while we were sipping our morning coffee, I was making contact with a Norcold refrigerator authorized repair facility up the road on our route of travel. The service manager suggested a couple of things that might be causing our error code and I attempted to address those possibilities while he was on the phone. Nothing seemed to allow the refrigerator to reset, so we will be at the shop bright and early Monday morning to see if they can "work us in." I've decided to put the drawer slide issue on hold until after the...

September 25 – Sea Kayaking, Brushing to Top of Sergeant Mountain, Night Photography, New Trail Build,RV Upgrade and Jack's Visit A lot has happened in our Maine lives since our last journal entry: 6-mile sea kayaking voyage, brushing with Friends to the top of rainy Sergeant Mountain, learning how to photograph the night sky, building a new park connector trail with Friends and upgrading our vacation house. Several months ago, we attended a charity benefit auction and bid on a sea kayak voyage for two and we were the high bidder. We chose...

June 12 – Ready to Leave Bowmansville for Mystic, CT We rolled up the RV awning and packed up our outside stuff in preparation for our travel to Mystic, CT tomorrow, Monday, June 13. We enjoyed Jack during his visit us again for a sleepover and we used the campground pool twice. See photo of Jack in the pool. And, we enjoyed another great meal at Amy’s when we returned Jack to his folks. I am learning a photographic technique called high dynamic range (HDR) imagery that combines three photos – normal, under exposed and over exposed – to...

Jun 5, 2011 - A Nice Day at Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park with Jack

June 4 – A Fun Day at Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park with Jack The weather was perfect for a day at the park with Jack – sunny yet cool. We arrived as the park opened and could enter the various rides without a long wait. Jack’s favorite ride was in a faux canoe that he steered on a rail on a large pond. Before we left the park, he had ridden it three times. An aerial ride to the other end of the park gave us an overview of the rides and activities. We looked down on the newest ride on which riders laid on their stomachs on plastic...

Jun 3, 2011 - Continue to Camp in Bowmansville/ Jack's 2nd Visit

June 3 – Continue to Camp at Oak Creek Campground, Bowmansville, PA We were fortunate to have our grandson Jack sleepover again, this time for two nights. We visited the LEGO Store near Philadelphia on Saturday morning. Jack consulted with the LEGO salesman and decided on a new LEGO kit. Along with LEGO assembly, Jack played basketball and did very well considering his height. He also flew a rubber band-powered balsa wood plane, played on the slide and swingset, roasted marshmallows expertly, played Bingo with the other campers, took a...

May 22, 2011 - Camping in Bowmansville, PA and Jack's Sleepover

May 22 – Camping at Oak Creek Campground, Bowmansville, PA We are set up at our campsite #385 on the side of the hill at Oak Creek Campground. The setup was a wet one but the sun shown today and I took photos of the flowers around our campsite. We had a great visit and sleepover by Jack, our grandson, over the weekend. A major event was Kathleen giving Jack a haircut that was endured by Jack by him playing the Angry Birds software game on our iPad. He had two meals of spaghetti tacos, his favorite, with an accoutrement of green Jello. See...

Sep 4, 2010 - Grandson’s LEGO Store Visit and Sleepover

September 4 and 5 – Our Grandson’s Visit and Sleepover Our 6-year-old grandson Jack, visited us on Saturday after we picked him up in Lancaster and traveled to the LEGO Store in the King of Prussia Mall north of Philadelphia. Jack is an avid LEGO assembler and, within our family, is considered a LEGO Genius. : ) The LEGO Store salesman, Kris, was very helpful and he and Jack spoke LEGOese profusely. Jack had done his research on the Internet and knew what model he wanted and had a backup plan B. Unfortunately, both models were out of stock...

Aug 12, 2010 - Truck is Pimped

The new truck is all Pimped out now and ready to roll. Gailsy has us get new steps, covers, and a new hitch to make her life easier. We had a trial run at backing the Jayco into a site this past week-end. Lets just say we both need a little practice. Between Gail backing me into a tree and me not turning in the right direction, we now need to repair our awning ($400). Over all we did pretty well getting her into a tight site. I'm starting to plan our trip down South. I think it will make life a lot better if I reserve only "pull through"...

Jul 28, 2010 - Follow-Up to Past Days Events

July 27 – Follow-Up from Past Days Events We arrived at our Bowmansville, PA campsite after traveling from Volo, IL via Cleveland, OH the past two days in great weather. We have set up camp on the hill and will be here for a couple weeks before starting our northeast trip. See photos. We did not have great weather on our way from Houghton, MI to Volo, IL. We stopped in Wisconsin Dells at the KOA Campground where we were within sight of the train track and the sound of the trains. We could also feel the trains because our RV rocked from the...

Jul 27, 2010 - Our New Baby

Today we took a ride into town and bought the new truck. Gailsy picked her out and we will be picking her up in a few days. Then it's off to the accessory shop for step rails, bed cover and new hitch for the Jayco. Thanks to GM for giving us such a great Employee discount! We saved 10K with our discount and rebates! I love having Onstar once again. Simple - easy to use and works everywhere. I can even link our Verizon Wireless minutes to our account. I might just get the whole package including XM Radio. No more going nuts when we are...
