The white cliffs are an accumulation of (non-hazardous) material dumped, over a hundred years, from nearby limestone-dolomite processing mine and plant. Because of their stark nature and that no vegetation grows there, they were dubbed The White Cliffs of Conoy, for many years thay were only accessible by boat on the Susquehanna river. The family that owned the property deeded it to the town of Bainbridge and Township of Conoy.
