Sep 4, 2012 - Our week @ Waldport

Our week stay at Waldport is coming to an end. We leave tomorrow for Bandon on the Southern Oregon Coast. I must say Waldport was a disappointment, there is really not a lot to do here. We ended up driving to Yachats a lot and took day trips to Florence and Newport. These were the highlights of the trip. Waldport does not have a lot to offer to tourists except the bay for fishing and crabbing. It was really too windy to spend a lot of time outdoors and since Labor Day weekend was in the middle of the trip we decided crabbing should be left...

120817-Fri-66026-Today we ended at 66103, started at 66026 miles, for total miles today of 76. Today we left Corvallis, drove back to the coast at Newport, toured the Rogue brewery and had a beer, went to a glass bowing place, and we are now camped in Waldport OR at a nice campground with everything. So I am trying to update my log, but the internet is not good

Jun 7, 2012 - To Waldport, OR

Weather Report: It rains all night and then clears. The afternoon is sunny and beautiful. Our first stop today is Lincoln City where I pick up my glass float. I meet the owner. Creating a float was a great experience! It is a travel day. We head south. We pass Gleneden Beach, Boiler Bay and Depoe Bay. South of Depoe Bay we are in new territory. I watch for the Otter Creek Loop. The sign says, “RVs not recommended”. We decide when this applies to us. This is not one of those times. The road is one-way for a while. It is the “Old 101”. We...

Jun 4, 2012 - Oregon

Hi everyone! We have had a great couple of days travel. We headed for Crater Lake, which was socked in with cloud cover when we first got there, but shortly afterwards the skies cleared and revealed the most beautiful lake you ever could imagine seeing. Wow! This of course was set in a backdrop of snow covered mountains all around it. The road around the lake was still closed because they were still working on removing the 31 feet of snow that was still there. What beautiful scenery. We left there and started for the Oregon coast. The road...

Oct 19, 2011 - Day #42,11-19-11

Day #42, 10-19-11 The sun rises late this time of year in the North West. When it was time to walk Bridget, the sun had just started to filter through the fog shrouded park. Visibility was near zero and I could see figures darting about in the fog just out of clear view! Who or what were they. The Bald guy with an unleashed Rottweiler could be out there and all I have is a short overly-friendly Corgi to protect me! Damn it! Great, Bridget decided that today was the day for an extra-long walk. Everything smells better when it is wet and...

Aug 18, 2011 - Waldport, OR, USA

The day we arrived we rode to the beach so our friend, Joe, could put his toes in the Pacific Ocean. What an inspiration he and his wife, Clara, have been on this trip. He is legally blind therefore she does all of the RV driving. But he has enjoyed every new adventure even though there were things that had to be described to him. We went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the OSU Hatfield Marine Center in Newport. We met up with some of our new friends for lunch at a quaint seafood restaurant and we saw lots of sea lions at a pier in the...

Aug 17, 2011 - Waldport, Oregon

Our last stop on the "Great Northwest Expedition" caravan ended in Waldport, Oregon. We traveled 81 miles and there were signs telling of Tsunami Hazard areas. That was a kind of warning that we are not used to. As we were traveling down the road all of sudden as we came around a bend, the ocean was on our left with the cliffs dropping straight down to it. It was so amazing. Traveling in the motorhome, we can see so much more out of the windshield. It is like we are seeing this beautiful country through our very own picture frame. This is...

May 13, 2010 - Waldport, Oregon

Well, it's May 13th and the 9th day of our Oregon Coast Trip. This morning we're headed to Waldport, Oregon which is just a hop, skip and a jump down the coast. Have I mentioned that most of our trip has been windy, chilly and rainy? No - well it just keeps on. We arrived in Waldport with the sun shining, but it was breezy and cold. Got settled in and took a short walk down toward the beach. We're really sitting above the beach here and it's actually an inlet from the ocean. It's amazing to watch the tide come in and go out from here. You...

Feb 17, 2010 - Making up for months and no post.

OK so I have had several people comment that we haven't updated this site since we've been here, OK only one person who apparently is stuck in a box. Well any way here is an update for all of you and just to let you know it was 65 degree's today and sunny. It is winter so it has been raining a lot but on the days that it hasn't we have been spend the majority of the time walking on the beach. There has also been the odd adventure or two to the casino. Steph and I are doing great. We had some freezing weather here in December and the...

Dec 18, 2009 - Late Start today

Boy what a couple slugs we are turning out to be. Going to bed (sorda) early 10pm but not getting up and moving until 10am. Scott did have a hard time going to sleep last night, and watch tv until 11:30pm or so, but still, we didn't leave our camp site until almost noon today! Can you say S-L-U-G-S Because we didn't leave until noon, we only traveled about 100 miles today. Good think we only have 200 more to go until we get to Debi's parents. We told them we would be there Sunday, the 20th, and at this right, we will just get there. It's...

Sep 1, 2009 - Oregon Coast Between Waldport and Yachats

It was very foggy and dreary this morning, so we didn't even get out until after noon. By then it was brighter. After a stop at the Waldport Visitor Center, we drove south along US 101 and stopped a number of times. The coastline along here is very dramatic, so our cameras had a good workout. I think the most beautiful section in this region is the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, in the Siuslaw National Forest, which includes the Devil's Churn, several coves and Cook's Chasm with the famous Spouting Horn. We drove up the Overlook Road to the...
