Oct 2, 2013 - Volunteering at Stub Stewart State Park

October 2, 2013 Greg and I have started our new volunteer assignment today! We are now at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park in Oregon. We are situated between Portland and the Coastal Range in a wooded area of second growth Douglas firs mixed with ashes and maples. It is always such an adventure to move to a new location and to begin integrating ourselves into a new mix of people and expectations. Our roles here are as park hosts in the visitor center which is known as Discovery Depot. Plus, we are to be good ambassadors for the park. In this...

Sep 27, 2013 - Stub Stewart State Park

The weather forecasters predict unusually heavy rain and wind in this part of the state and here we are, ready for the show! Not really, we had just planned to meet Bob & Gail here for the weekend and then this forecast pops up. Fortunately, there are no tall trees immediately adjacent to our site, so no fear of trees or limbs landing on the roof. But rain, we got lots. Don't know in inches how much precipitation fell, but the streams are swollen. This is a very nice new state park with miles and miles of hiking, biking and equestrian...

Aug 18, 2012 - Banks-Vernonia Rail Trail

Aug. 18, 2012 Great forested rail trail for bikes and hiking. 21 miles to Vernonia and Blue House Cafe for great Mediterranean lunch. Visit Blue House Cafe Then back again with stop off for blackberries to go with frozen Greek yogurt. Good day!
