May 23, 2016 - Last day in Oregon

Today we drove into the Oregon town of Pendleton. The famous Pendleton woolen mills are here. The first one was built in 1863 and they have been operating continuously since the first one opened. The famous Pendleton wool blankets are made at this mill. We got to tour the mill and also shop in the outlet store. They have beautiful products, but they are quite expensive, even in the seconds sections, which are blankets that have some flaws. The Bishop family owns the mills and have so for 6 generations. The courthouse here in Pendleton has...

2016 RV Trip

May 22, 2016 - Umatilla, Oregon

Arrived in Umatilla, Oregon this afternoon amid blustery winds. This area is completely different from the Oregon Coast. It is like we have gone into a different world. Here is is arid, very dry, few to no trees and extremely windy. We are parked in the city marina and RV park. It is located right on the banks of the Columbia River, which is still a very large river. On the travel route here we passed several large dams over the Columbia, one at least was a hydroelectric dam. It is much warmer here than on the coast. We left Troutdale with...

2016 RV Trip

Apr 20, 2016 - Umatilla

Dropped back into Oregon today, starting to mosey south. We were going to stay at a Corp of Engineering campground on the Washington side, but saw this one and knew we would fit so headed there. It is a marina and RV park. Nice views of the Columbia and great places to walk around. We managed to get our 10,000 steps per day in every day here. Near the marina are three large concrete tetrahedrons, which look much like very large sinkers. These are not for fishing though. They are about seven feet tall and weigh 12 tons each. Over three...

We were up and out early traveling on west I-84 to Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton. We had to kill an hour of time as we can't check into our park in Umatilla during their lunch hour. We stopped at the Casino and had lunch. Most delicious Fish and Chips. Instead of chips I had fried green beans. Yummy! Would have those again. Then headed to Umatilla where we stay at Umatilla Marina and RV Park, one of our favorite parks. It was nice enough that once we got set up, we were able to sit and watch the Columbia River. I must say it is comforting...

Winter 2016

Sep 12, 2014 - Umatilla, OR

We did experience winds driving east in the Gorge, but once we got through Hood River, things calmed down. We stayed at Umatilla Marina and RV Park on the Columbia, one of our favorite parks. This happens to be a great fishing year so the park was full. Boats and fishing gear everywhere.

Jul 17, 2013 - Back to Oregon

Once we'd left Montana, we headed on Hwy 90 across the northern Idaho panhandle, into Washington at Spokane. From there we went south, through the natural desert turned wheat farmland of eastern Washington, crossing the Columbia River at Umatilla, Oregon. Umatilla, and town next door, Hermiston, are the site of one of the dams Dan's dad helped build in the '50s. His family lived in the area during that time. Since it was July and it was the desert, Umatilla was HOT. We stayed two days.

Rambling Rodericks

Apr 5, 2013 - Umatilla, OR

Yay! Back into Pacific Daylight Savings Time. Traveling becomes a challenge with all the different time zones and remembering where we are and what time our family is on. Nice day traveling and wonderful to see spring and all the shades of green in Idaho and Oregon. Coming down into Pendleton was gorgeous. The fields looked like a patchwork quilt. My favorite time of the year in the Pacific Northwest and I must say, I am very glad to be back. Loved seeing this great country, but there is no place like home. We once again stayed at Umatilla...

In Umatilla, OR we stay at our favorite park, Umatilla Marina & RV Park. We always stay in sites 1-6 which face the water and marina and can watch boats, birds, traffic over the bridge and the beautiful sunsets over the Columbia River. This time our friends, Ken & Connie Anderson met us there. We enjoyed a great lasagne dinner prepared by Chef Connie and of course "two bottles of wine".

May 20, 2012 - Umatilla, Oregon

5/20 – 5/28 After two days and 271 miles, with an overnight at a Wal-Mart parking lot in Pendleton, Oregon, we parked at Sand Station Recreation Area in Umatilla, Oregon. Sand Stateion is a small, free, COE (Corp of Engineers) park. Although there is a 14-day limit at COE parks, there are a couple of RVs that look like they have been parked for months, if not years. While here, Joan got packed and ready for her flight to Washington, DC. We drove to the Pasco, Washington airport on May 23 where I dropped her off. After her arrival in DC she...

On the road again to Umatilla, Oregon. We stay at the Umatilla Marina and RV Park located on the Columbia River. We like site 6 which lets us look out over the river, marina and I-82 bridge just south of McNary Dam. We discovered this park last year on our travels and really enjoy staying here. This park is run by the Port of Umatilla. The weather was beautiful when we arrived and we were able to sit out one last time. Great afternoon and nice to relax before we head home and get back into our hectic routine.
