Jun 14, 2017 - Sun River, Oregon

Leaving Eugene to go up and over the mountains, you immediately start climbing up and up and up some more. The 115 mile drive up and over to the Thousand Trails Resort near Sun River, Oregon was very wet for us. It rained all the way up, but when we got on the east side of the mountains the rain stopped yea! This trip is THE PROOF trial for our new motorhome and it passes with flying colors. The steep long grades (5%, 6% and even a short 8%)are driven at 40 mph, at 3800 rpm in 4th gear... Dave's a happy man ! Making the transition from a...

May 6, 2015 - Sunriver (Bend), OR

Wed, 06 May: Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... Yes, let it snow. Pardon us, but isn't this the first week of May? Aren't we in the northern hemisphere? Didn't Al Gore tell us the Earth was warming beyond control? If so, why did we get to spend several lovely hours playing in snow? Yes, it is true! We had a very restful nite parked on the edge of Eddie's huge truck lot in Hine's Oregon. The truckers were very considerate and everyone shut down their engines for the nite. The only thing that woke us up was the cold, it dropped to the...

2015 Travels

Jul 12, 2014 - TT Bend/Sunriver, near Bend Oregon

We decided since we both felt pretty good to make the long drive, instead of breaking it up like usually do. This time it was 440 miles and 8 hours, 10 minutes of driving from Mound Hpuse to this Thousand Trails resort park about 15 miles south of Bend, Oregon. We switched drivers every two hours and only stopped once for fuel. The outside temps were nice and cool with only a bit of headwind for about 100 miles. Otherwise, all went smooth. This stop, our 333'rd, is for about 17 days and marks the true beginning of our summer. Yes, the true...

Aug 29, 2013 - We're under way!

Well, after much anticipation, we're finally under way! Made Bend in somewhat under 5 hours, with a stop for lunch and a slight hold-up for road construction on 58, bit before the Willamette Pass, at the tunnel. Found a good meal at the Village Grill in Sunriver, and slept good last night. Few down sides: water leak which has been fixed several times really isn't (only slight leak at the moment), and no reception on the TV, though I had installed a new antenna. However, with a wedding coming up Sat., probably we won't have much TV time....

Jun 22, 2013 - Upcountry

This week we left our berth in La Pine State Park after 10 days and moved 20 miles away (4 miles as the crow flies) into an undeveloped forest service campground on the spring-fed Fall River. We are amazed at the number of spring-fed rivers in Oregon. Saturday morning we awoke to a perfect early summer day on the eastern slope of the Cascades. Nancy made up some tasty tuna salad, no easy feat at seven in the morning, for our days' sustenance. With our provisions loaded into the Rocketeer, we drove about 10 miles to Gull Point on the...

Jun 28, 2011 - Sunriver Thousand Trails

We love the Sunriver Thousand Trails Preserve! Just near the Crosswater golf course, this very large park has big sites mixed into the pine trees of the high desert. Cal fished the Little Deschutes, and caught a nice 16 inch German Brown trout for our dinner. Irma took the car and went home to check on the house, plants, and picked up granddaughters Kalea and Kiara. Before moving to Austin, TX, we wanted to spend some time with them. We went to the High Desert Museum, and generally just relaxed for two weeks. Just before leaving, some...

Aug 10, 2009 - First Stop - Bend / Sunriver TT Oregon

Here we are on our first stop on our long trek across the lower 48 and back. We woke up to a brisk 44 degree cloudless sky in campsite H6 at the far back corner of Bend / Sunriver Thousand Trails Preserve. I went outside on my normal chore routine to let the Girls out of their sleeping quarters inside the canopy in the back of the Silver Breeze (Dodge Pick-up). The sunlight was just touching the tree tops and the air was brisk. As the Girls climbed down the ramp from their quarters I could hear coyotes yapping somewhere off in the distance....

Chasing the Sunrise

Jul 30, 2009 - Harmon Reunion 2009 - Sunriver

On July 30 we caravaned from home to Sunriver with Liz and Moe. The day was beautiful, and by late afternoon we had a double camp setup at Thousand Trails in Sunriver. The rest of the family will be driving and flying-in from the Portland area. The big house is a monster that will sleep 20+, with a hot tub, pool table, 60" big screen and many more options.

Apr 8, 2009 - Sunriver

Tim began his retirement years with a mini trip to Sunriver. We left Friday night after a super retirement party given in his honor at McKenzie glass. Arrived home Tuesday afternoon. The weather was snowy on the way over the pass, but the remainder of the time was beautiful. Sunny, blue skies. We walked & walked. Rode bikes. Sad to say I forgot to take my camera. So unable to prove this sighting. We had the priviledge of watching a Great Horned Owl in the pine tree off the back deck of the vacation house 2 evenings. Hoots and all. We were...

Mar 21, 2009 - Sunriver, OR

We spent 3-1/2 weeks at our house in Sunriver, OR. Most of the time was work: filing tax returns and preparing to move to Columbus, OH. Emptying our 750 square foot storage unit was quite a project. We were able to fit quite a few things in the storage under our stairs, and there were lots of old records to be shredded. David Hatch helped us out by building a little lockable corner unit in the garage, and he took some stuff to his garage to be sold on Craigslist. We packed a 8'x8'x16' POD and it is on its way by truck to a warehouse outside...
