Oct 4, 2019 - Windshield and Springfield Elks

We got up early for our 7:30 a.m. appointment for the windshield replacement. We spent the day in customer lounge/employee lunchroom with 2 couples and an adorable small male Shih Tzu, Sonny. And Daisy's favorite, a mellow cat. The dogs had fun together, and Daisy made a nuisance of herself following the patient cat all around the room. I went and picked up lunch at Coburg Crossing Café that was recommended by the employees. Good sandwiches. A woman from their marketing department, who administers their facebook page, came in to the...

Sep 20, 2017 - Springfield and Harrisburg

Another short trip today, down to the Eugene area. Across the Willamette River from Eugene is Springfield, with an Elks Lodge with a few RV spaces. We experienced a little rain, because it is – after all – Oregon. We camped for two nights at the Elks lodge because it was close to a very reputable RV Repair Shop in Harrisburg that we have used before. Whenever we need Monaco specific items fixed or parts, we will stop here. Also in Eugene, there is Northwest RV Parts store with anything Monaco that we need. We picked up a few spare parts,...

Aug 22, 2017 - Last day in Springfield

We took the dogs on their last walk with us and we've totally enjoyed them. Nice to have surrogate dogs that you can give back! We took them to the kennel where they know and love them so we didn't feel too bad. They did face the door out hoping we'd take them back home. We stopped at Ninkasi brewery on the way back and are going to eat some of Cathy's fresh tomatoes and squash along with albacore tuna tonight. We had the Chateau Lorane petite sirah with the meal and it was tremendous. Tomorrow we're back on the road to somewhere!

Aug 21, 2017 - Eclipse

We stayed in Springfield to see the eclipse as it was predicted to be 99.3 percent total. It got cold and dark although not totally dark like in the total areas that we saw on TV. Very cool and the dogs were sleeping during it. Cathy's neighbors had an extra pair of glasses so we used them and could see great. So to top it off, we stopped back at Falling Sky to get their Pub IPA, the best we've had here. We had to avoid I5 south as it was at a standstill from all the people who had gone to the totality about 20 miles north of here. Lots of...

Aug 19, 2017 - Eugene farmer's market

After we walked the dogs, we headed to the Eugene farmers market downtown. They stay open until 3 so we walked around all the vendors who sold everything from vegetables to glass smoking pipes to soap. One area had a drumming circle going with 2nd hand smoke and people selling "brownies". Not exactly Thomson! We bought 3 tomatoes from an organic farm and a CD from a guy playing a hand pan drum. After all our people watching (definitely saw some interesting ones), we found the Coldfire brewery and had their western sun IPA. Back to Cathy's...

Aug 18, 2017 - Bennett vineyards

After Bill worked on the camper this morning, we took a drive up to camping world to buy a battery holder. Since we were up that way, we drove 30 minutes to Cheshire to the Bennett vineyards. They mainly make Pinot noir so we talked to the owner and sampled his wines. They are some of the best we've had and are going to enjoy a 2013 with our homemade spaghetti.

Aug 17, 2017 - Rest

We're coming close to oregoning out after so much hiking and winery/brewery stops! There's a lot of air pollution around here due to fires, hay cutting, and lumber mills so it kind of makes breathing hard and headaches to occur. Today was saved for laundry and shopping at home Depot for important stuff like glue and finishing nails. We did have to check our Plank Road brewery in Springfield and try their summer IPA. We also stopped at Claim 52 but didn't get anything since they didn't have a good selection (unless you like fruity, herby...

Aug 16, 2017 - Elijah Bristow state park

We headed south out of Springfield towards EB state park. There are a lot of trails and we picked the elk trail, which was a 2 mile loop that led to the Middle Fork of the Willamette river. This is a beautiful fast flowing river but on this trail you only saw a little of it.There are other trails that follow the river and we think they would be a good choice. We headed back out to I5 and turned off for the Saginaw winery which is close to the interstate. The most personable woman, Carol, was pouring tastes and we ended up buying a couple of...

Aug 15, 2017 - Pre's trail

Bill had the RV guy here today to replace the fridge and after 3 hours, we have a beautiful new fridge. After he finished, we headed to Alton Baker park where we found Pre's trail through the park. It's named for Steve Prefontaine, a famous runner for Oregon. We walked about 2 miles on a nice cedar path and then found the Steelhead brewery downtown. They had a great IPA named twisted meniscus so that's what we had! At home, we cooked albacore tuna with fresh cherry tomatoes, basil, onions and olive oil on top- delicious!

Aug 14, 2017 - Hiking

We took the dogs out this morning around 9:30 since Arthur came in and jumped on the bed at 6. We did go back to sleep for a while though. We found a hike south of Eugene called South Ridgeline. It went up a hill and then leveled out for about a mile through a big tree forest. Great 65 degrees and a nice breeze. We hiked back down and found the Falling Sky brewery in Eugene where we had their Pub Life IPA. Very similar to Bill's beer!

Aug 12, 2017 - Wineries

After we took the dogs on their 2 mile walk, Bill cooked up some smoked Tillamook cheese sandwiches with Canadian bacon and tomatoes for lunch. We took off for a winery tour within an hour of here. We stopped at King estate first for some excellent wines and followed up with Chateau Lorane and Noble, both of which are excellent wineries. Noble had better wines than Lorane and a great view. We're going to start a wine cellar in the truck camper! Back to Cathy's and the dogs to cook tuna with pesto Alfredo and fresh tomatoes that we bought at...
