Jul 7, 2016 - The Oregon Garden

Day 18 July 7th We back-tracked north on highway 101 the next morning. At Reedsport we turned east on S.R. 36 and drove along the Umpqua River. In the small town of Drain we stopped and said our good-byes. Chuck and Kitty headed south toward I-5. They ended their day at the KOA in Shasta City, California. We got onto I-5 south of Cottage Grove and headed north. We exited I-5 in Salem and pulled into the nicely maintained Silver Spur RV Park in Silverton. We were there so we could go to the Oregon Garden, which was only a mile or so away. ...

Apr 2, 2016 - Silverton

We have been working really hard to take care of a few things around my parents’ house and also get our own rig back to be ready to travel again. There is a lot to sort out and stuff…somewhere. I know someone who named their rig “The Cramalot Inn”. I can see why!  It was a beautiful day so we decided to take a day off and go to Silver Falls State Park. But probably because it was such a beautiful day, everyone in the entire world decided to do the same thing. There was a long line of cars on the road leading into the park that were...

Jun 2, 2014 - Beautiful Oregon

We left the Klamath River behind and headed north to Sutherlin, Oregon where we stayed at the Escapee’s Co-Op park called Timber Valley. It is a lovely park with lots of friendly residents. Almost all of the sites were beautifully landscaped, though the one we were on had not been. All it had was a cement patio and a nice sized storage shed. When we first went full time and we stayed at the co-op park in Washington I was all for putting a deposit down on a lot. But now I’m not so sure. It would be a lot of work to landscape and maintain a...

Sep 11, 2013 - Men Working

Today I took some photos of the men working their project. They are replacing rotten wood in the Heritage Hall deck and steps. Once they got into the project it was a lot worse they they expected. The entire steps had to come off and be replaced. So they are working hard to get the project done in the three week time frame.

Sep 6, 2013 - Christian Retreat Center MMAP Project #3

Here we are at our 3rd MMAP project "Christian Retreat Center" CRC here in Silverton, OR. This particular project has NO TV, NO CELL PHONE AND NO INTERNET. They provided us a land line phone for our use and internet is available here at the dining hall. So here I am. It is a beautiful place once the sun comes out. But it is Oregon and it is near the coast so it is usually cloudy. They say from mid-Sept. until June you rarely see any sun. Wow! Not my type of weather. I help out in the kitchen only about 15-20 minutes a day. There is not much...

May 1, 2013 - Another "road trip"

Getting close to time to head south to Sacramento, we planned another short road trip. We drove south to the small historic town of Silverton which is well known for it's painted murals on many of the historic buildings. From there we went hiking at Silver Falls. We have many nice pictures from these road trips on Terri's Tidings (www.terristidings.blogspot.com)

Aug 11, 2012 - The Rocky Coast of Oregon

August 5, 2012 So, made reservations at an RV Park that received good ratings on www.rvparkreviews.com which are usually quite accurate…in fact I’ve written a few myself for places I’ve stayed where I thought others would benefit from both the good and bad ones I reviewed. Though we’d only traveled a couple of hundred miles today, they had been hard miles through mountainous terrain fraught with rough pavement, road construction and careless drivers. Crossing the river a few miles south of Grants Pass I saw the sign…the one that said “NO”...

Jul 19, 2012 - The Beautiful Oregon Garden

Finally, the weather turned after five overcast, gloomy, cloudy, rain-threatening days to a beautifully sunny afternoon! We jumped at the chance to get out and check off some more things on our list of things to see and do within the Salem area. Today we opted to drive the ten-mile drive to the Oregon Garden located on the outskirts of Silverton. This beautiful garden is contained in 80-acres and is steadily growing as funds allow. It opened in 1999 with a variety of plant species and habitats and the ONLY Frank Lloyd Wright home in Oregon....

Jul 5, 2012 - Silverton's Many Murals

As indicated in yesterday’s post, the weather is definitely taking a turn for the better for us and the entire week ahead is showing some sunshine and wonderful temps. After being pretty much house-bound since our arrival, we thought we’d head out and explore more of this part of Oregon. We opted to NOT visit the coast this week due to the holiday and folks being on vacation and probably pretty crowded! Today’s trip took us approximately twelve miles east of where we are staying to the Garden City of Oregon; Silverton! This small little...

May 29, 2012 - Visiting Silverton and Salem

We arrived at Silver Spur RV Park in Silverton where we spent the Memorial Day weekend. Holiday weekends can sometimes pose a problem for full-timers especially if you happen to be in a popular area and haven’t made reservations. Rosie and Claude, whom we met in Mesa last year, are working at this campground and invited us to stay for the long weekend. They mentioned that there were lots to see in the area – and they were right. First, we visited nearby Salem which is Oregon’s capitol. Of course it was raining, so we decided to make the...

May 13, 2012 - Silverton, OR

The morning of May 13th we left Collier State Park and traveled north on US97 then northwest on Oregon 58 to Eugene, north on I5 to Salem then east to Silverton, OR. We had reservations for two nights at Silver Spur RV Park. We took this route because we had an 8am appointment on the 15th with Westland Sales in Clackamas, OR to have our washer/dryer repaired. We didn't do much while in Silverton except needed grocery shopping and laundry.

May 8, 2012 - Silverton - home for the next month

We were exhausted after our 20 mile drive from Salem to Silverton but we will recover in a couple days. This will be our home until June 8 when we plan to move up to Pasco. We were here last fall and decided then we would take advantage of this park’s monthly rates and return. And, we did. Our plans during the next month include visiting friends that are nearby and attending a wine and jazz festival. Oh, we will also explore the Oregon Gardens and Silver Falls State Park. We have more computer projects to finish. Our time here will be busy...
