Jul 22, 2016 - A Beautiful Volcano

We made the drive around to the western side of Mount St. Helen, checked into the RV park, and wasted no time to head up the mountain as the skies were clear. Our drive up was hampered by construction on the road, but the 20 minute stop didn’t hurt anything as the skies were still clear. We got to the top and even the visitor center looked nothing like it did the last time we were here because you could actually see the mountain and the entire crater. May 11, 2009 - Silver Lake, OR

Actually a parking lot for a roadside information kiosk a few miles east of the very small town of Silver Lake, OR. We were getting a little tired and could see a great deal of smoke on the horizon in the direction we were headed, so we stopped for the night. It was incredibly quiet. Also a bit on the chilly side, but that was ok. We got up at a decent hour and hit the road the next day for La Pine. The smoke must have been a "controlled burn" because the next day, it was pretty much gone.

Aug 12, 2007 - Drive & Dinner

Today we went for a drive (on the way we passed a fire in the forest, which was not big enough to report even tho the helicopters were dropping buckets of water) to Fort Rock State Park and yes it is a huge rock that looks like a fort. Supposedly the solders held off a tribe of indians by defending the one open face of the rock. The rest of the rock was too high for the indians to scale, so they finally just gave up.
