Jan 4, 2019 - Time to Pack Up

We went back to Mom’s house where we had been staying for a few months. Packed up the little trailer, covered it. Got the house (big trailer) ready to roll. For two people living in an RV it sure does seem like we have a lot of stuff. And how come it seems like everything gets moved around when we stop for a few months.

Jan 1, 2019 - Scio Oregon

Starting the year at Mom's house in Scio, Oregon. She lives outside a very small town. The next door neighbors have a flock of chickens, four ducks and rabbit that thinks it is a chicken. They come to see me every morning for some cracked corm. Sometimes the local gang of Wild Turkeys come through too. It is always nice to stop by for a visit to see Mom. Only two miles down the road is our Oldest son's family. He has two boys who are nine and almost 16. It is always nice to see the grandkids. They grow so fast when we are not there.

Jan 10, 2018 - Starting point 2018 Scio Oregon

We launch from Scio Oregon. The day before we left there was a sudden rain storm. There were reports of a tornado in Scio, which was confirmed by the weather service. We were in the grocery store at the time and did not see it. But we sure saw a beautiful double rainbow. Maybe its an omen for good times to come. Lets see what the next year holds for us!

Nov 13, 2017 - Oregon and family for the holdiays

In Oregon we visited family. My dad had passed away and the services were held here. We spent the holidays with mom and my brothers, son Chris and his family. It is always fun to spend Christmas with grandkids. We took Michael to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra Concert in Eugene and spent a day with Gabriel and made a gingerbread house, and Ninjabread cookies (gingerbread boys doing karate) and made one Wookie Cookie (gingerbread boy that looks like a Wookie). Fun times,

Apr 2, 2017 - Family visit

Just last week we were in hot and sunny Tucson. Now we are in Scio Oregon at my parents’ house. It seems like two different extremes between cool wet Oregon and warm sunny Arizona. But it is great to see the family. My brother Jack’s family came out plus our son Chris’s family with the grandkids. Our son Jesse even came down from Seattle to visit for the weekend. We had a good time. There were a lot of cribbage battles. I don’t think I won any of them. Sigh. But it was fun. We stayed for a long weekend, helped out in a few things around the...

Jan 4, 2017 - A new year and a new adventure!

Happy New Year! January 1, we drove up to Portland to pick up my friend Mary from the airport. She will be travelling with us for a few weeks while we head to Arizona. It should be fun! We stopped by Multnomah Falls. This is iconic Oregon, and made for some pretty pictures. It was a bit cold with a little snow and ice on the ground. Hot chocolate and Hot Cider was really good! One day we stopped by the Albany Carousel and dropped off some homework that I had carved for them over the past summer and had a great visit with some of the guys I...

Dec 31, 2016 - Oregon for the Holidays

12/31/2016 We have been in Oregon since Nov. 20 2016, spending time with my family. We celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with them. We had few days or nights of games. One of the games we played was Shootin’ Ladders. This is like Chutes and Ladders, but now the gingerbread boys are shooting each other. You roll dice to see what damage if any is done to the body parts. You mark the damage on a score sheet, and when you have so many hits, you lose that arm, or leg, or head and have to rip it off and give it to your opponent who shot it...

Nov 26, 2016 - Oregon

We drove on doing more miles than we usually do. We needed to get to Oregon before Nov 21 mom’s birthday. And we got there in plenty time. It was great to finally see trees again! Nevada is a lot of desert! But with Oregon comes the rain. It has rained every day since we got here, and the ten day forecast is for rain, rain, rain. We celebrated Mom’s birthday on Monday , and my brother Bill’s birthday, and Thanksgiving on Thursday. My brother Jack had his birthday the weekend before. It is a busy month for us! Thanksgiving was full of...

Apr 5, 2016 - Hitting the Road!

We left Scio today. We have enjoyed being with family, but it is time to continue our journey. We are not sure yet, where we will go, but we are pretty sure we will be having fun looking, or doing, or not doing anything! Thanks for your continued interest in our story. It makes us feel like we are still surrounded by those we care about. We are glad to have you along!

Mar 16, 2016 - Covered Bridges

It has been raining here a lot. Even some of the locals are getting tired of the wetness and dismal skies. So where there is a break in the rain, we go out. Somewhere. Anywhere. Just to soak up some sunshine. This time we decided to do the Linn County Covered Bridge Tour. There are nine covered bridges here in this county alone. If we would have continued on to neighboring counties, we could have seen more than 21 covered bridges all within an easy drive. Most of these were built around 1930 – 1940. They were covered due to the large amount...

Feb 4, 2016 - National Parks

we are still awaiting trailer repairs so it gives me more time to reflect on the journey we have had before I started this blogging thing. So this gives me a little chance to catch up and share more of the journey getting us here. Looking at these pictures and seeing how much we have done has been fun. I cant believe we have done all that! And it really has been a relatively short time period. We have been in Oregon for two winters now at my parents house. Both times about four months. When you add the five months for the Alaska trip, that...

Feb 2, 2016 - Getting Our Kicks on Route 66

Still reviewing what got us here. I figured route 66 needed its own narrative. We figured as long as we were travelling along the southern states, we might as well see Route 66. But to do that we had to start at the beginning. So we headed to Chicago. In downtown Chicago, not far from Lake Superior sits Buckingham Fountain. This is the traditional start of Route 66. We parked our rig at a campground and did Chicago without it. For some reason Mike did not think hauling a 40 foot trailer through Chicago was a good idea. As it was, the night...
