Oct 11, 2014 - Scappoose, OR...

We have enjoyed visiting with friends Dave & Judy for the past several days. The weather has been wonderful, no rain & lovely temps for our visit. Our first evening together we dined out, then returned home to sit out & watch a lovely sky out on the back deck. The following morning we headed back across the Columbia River to visit our good friend Pat Cooper. Pat has been a good friend for 30 years & she used to reside in Las Vegas. We see Pat every winter/Christmas when she visits her son Jim but we also try to see her when we get into...

Oct 9, 2014 - Multnomah Falls...

Wednesday we came out of the Columbia River Gorge area in time to visit Multnomah Falls, the tallest waterfall in the state of Oregon. This is an easy to access waterfall, just a 5 minute walk from the parking area off I-84. There were more folks visiting today then we've ever encountered at the falls in the past. Bummer, I like it when it's much quieter, easier to navigate the paths & when you don't have to feel so guilty for 'hogging' the best viewpoint! Selfish I suppose :) From the lower vantage point you can see both the upper and...

Oct 14, 2012 - Hood River Loop...

Dave & Judy picked us up at 9am for today's outing. Yep, you heard right, 9am! Now if you know me at all, you know that for me to be out the door at that time of the day takes an act of congress! I am not a morning girl at all. Although I have started going to bed closer to 1am than 3am lately. That old late swing casino shift schedule has died hard but really doesn't fit into this lifestyle. We traveled in a Prius today, one of 3 vehicles our friends own. An interesting combination of gas & batteries. Runs smooth & quiet & gets as much as...

Today Dave & Judy took us on an all day driving tour. We started out taking the Hood River County Fruit Loop. This 35-mile scenic drive took us through the valley's orchards, forests, farmlands, and friendly communities. We visited a winery, stopped at a wonderful old cemetery, purchased some delicious baked goods at a farmers market, ate lunch at the Full Sail Brewery overlooking the Columbia and just had a wonderful day in general! But this particular post will cover our final stop for the day, the Columbia River Gorge. The towering...

Oct 12, 2012 - Scappoose, Oregon...

Well, on our way home from our overnight trip to Port Angeles we noticed the truck was running a little rough and seemed to be 'missing'. So we extended our stay here in Elma & Larry took the truck into the Ford dealership. As you may know, we had quite a bit of work done on it in Rapid City so were a bit dismayed when we started 'billowing' black smoke after fueling in Gillette. We stopped at numerous Ford dealerships in the past few weeks & were repeatedly assured it was 'bad fuel'. The truck seemed to be running fine, it just had lots of...

Oct 18, 2009 - Scappoose, Or....

We arrived at 'football Sunday' around noon, two hours late apparently! A time was never discussed so we assumed noon would be about right. Not so when we were supplying the Bloody Mary's, LOL...Our Mary's are hot & spicy made from a secret family recipe (well, sort of secret!). I'm not much of a drinker but do enjoy one of these occasionally. Usually not in the mornings though! If I do indulge it's usually a 'girlie' drink, you know, a pina colada or mai tai or strawberry margarita. Something like that. Or an occasional glass of wine. Good...
