Sep 17, 2014 - A short drive up the Columbia River to St. Helens

We have appointments this week in Portland, and while we could easily have driven the 90 miles, we opted to try out the Elks Lodge RV Park in St. Helens. About 7 or 8 full hookup sites at the end of a residential street. Very quiet and the lodge deck has an awesome view of the Columbia River from atop a bluff.

May 30, 2014 - Epilogue

The final leg of my return trip was uneventful. In all I traveled 7,624 miles during the trip, 6,844 of that in the Lone Wolf rig. The only mechanical issue I had was the integrated trailer brake controller in the RAM. It was causing the trailer brakes to lock up with the slightest pressure. I was afraid that the tires were being damaged so I pulled the fuse on the trailer brake line. This was not a problem since the truck brakes were more than adequate for the job. I want to take this time to thank some of the folks who made this all...

May 8, 2014 - Last day before departure

It's May 8th and tomorrow I depart for Spokane. I will be picking up the 'chase vehicle' and driving to Clarkston, WA where I will meet up with my niece and 2 nephews. Saturday morning we join with a couple of other riders and head south after breakfast. I will be sending out occasional updates and will notify you when they are available for viewing. This is my first attempt at an online journal so I hope it all goes well. Thanks for joining me on this trip. ENJOY! Doug

Aug 29, 2012 - St Helen, OR

We want to see the Oregon coast from the very top starting with Astoria, so headed northwest. But first we had to stop for the Labor Day weekend at a recommended Elks Lodge, and to perhaps get to visit with yet another friend, so our journey today was only about 38 miles. We crossed the Willimette River in Portland and traveled along the Columbia River with its many bridges and inlets & islands. This area of the map was inhabited with the same native tribes as in Washington and western Canada & Alaska, the Tlingkits and their presence was...

Jun 18, 2012 - St. Helens, OR

No Pictures for today. Is was drizzling on and off during the day. We rode generally along the Columbia river. Every time I saw a picture-worthy spot, it was raining. When it was dry, we were around an industrial plant. However, we had a 20mph tail wind -- excellent. This is the last day of semi-civilization. Got a chance to pick up a few things at Walmart. Next chance for shopping is in Boise in a week.

Apr 3, 2012 - March 25th departure

We delayed our departure for various reasons, not the least of which was to allow us to see our grandson Noah graduate from Young Marines Boot Camp. This was a special moment for our family and brought back many memories for ol' Grandpa. Departure finally came on March 25th. It was typical Oregon Spring... rain off and on all the way down the valley. Our first stop was at the 7 Feathers RV Resort in Canyonville. We spent 2 days here to get settled in to the RV routine and hoping for better weather. On the 27th we headed south again and...
