Sep 20, 2018 - Oregon coast.

Writing from Roseburg, Oregon on a beautiful warm Thursday. We have been in Oregon now for ten days. We started with a visit with family and friends. We stayed at Reeder Beach RV Park facing the Columbia River on Sauvie Island outside of Portland. Saturday we spent the morning visiting with Carol and Michelle our friends from NH. Don made blueberry pancakes from the blueberries we picked at Mt Rainer. Saturday night we visited with my cousin Judy and her family. Reunited after probably 35 years. So much to talk about and so many pictures to...

Aug 17, 2017 - Elder Hostile

August 15, 2017 Elder Hostile Today I arrived in Roseburg, OR to visit my oldest son, Michael, who I have not seen in three years. Imagine my surprise when instead of my green-eyed baby boy, some old dude with a shaved head and a salt-and-pepper beard greeted me with a bear hug and a “Hi Mommy!” This guy says he is 52, but how can that be when I am only 52? Please don't remind me that I was – 17 years ago. This aging thing is really starting to piss me off. Ever since I found out that those deep creases between your nose and the sides of...

Born to Wanda

Jun 28, 2017 - Mt. Hood / Salem

We took a ride to Mt. Hood to get a close-up look at the mountain. We drove to Timberline Lodge which sits right next to Mt. Hood. It's June 28 and people were skiing. This lodge was in the movie "The Shining". An aerial view was used in the beginning of the movie and several outside shots. This is a far cry from what a Forest Ranger told me that it was where the movie was filmed. There is a really pretty lake close by as well. We then took a trip to Salem, the capital of Oregon. Very unimpressive building, but we did see something we have...

Northwest Road Trip

Jul 20, 2016 - Sonoma to Roseburg, OR

July 20, 2016 July has been an emotional rollercoaster for Bob and me. Josh and Melissa were married in Denver on July 3 and I managed a small surprise 70th birthday party for Bob on July 8. The bigger surprise for Bob was that Josh and Melissa not only came to celebrate his birthday but also, to take the “rig” to Oregon for a week long “mini-moon”. He had the good grace not to crucify me for cutting his preparation week down to a day. OR he realized in the rig I do all of the cooking! We are very excited to launch our 7th 2 month rig trip...

Sep 12, 2015 - Roseburg OR - Albertson’s Parking Lot

Went to Roseburg after leaving Crater Lake. Made a few stops along the way to see some really cool waterfalls. Got stung by a bee or some stinging insect at Clearwater Falls. I'd forgotten how that could hurt! Arrived in Roseburg too late to get a campsite, so spent the night in an Albertson’s parking lot. Much less crowded than Walmart and convenient for doing grocery shopping the next day.

Retired at Last!

Aug 28, 2013 - Down the I-5 to Oregon

We decided to high-tail it back to the central coast of CA before the Labor Day Weekend & the 2 extra days in Williams Lake took away any sightseeing or visiting time we would have had so we're just headed south on the fastest possible route. Toni told us yesterday that the Escapees rule was that you're supposed to stop for the day after 200 miles or 2:00 pm - we broke that rule today (we drove for close to 400 mi & stopped at 5:30) & will for the next 2 days. Sorry! We also missed visiting with friends in Vancouver, WA, today & will miss...

Jul 1, 2012 - Out of California

Quick update, finally out of California, we went from one end of state clear to the top, scenery wonderful, roads leave a lot to be desired though. Our time in Klamath was outstanding, the Pacific coast is very rugged and almost calm. I have pictures but internet service is just too slow to download will try later. We ran into rain as we hit Oregon yesterday, not hard just enough to get the coach streaked with more dirt. Today we are headed to Eugene for a couple of days, then onto Portland, spending the 4th in Seattle. Will catch up soon.

West trip 2012

Jun 29, 2012 - Sweet success - sort of

Roseburg, OR. Having been thwarted in our earlier visit, we returned today to Crater Lake National Park with the hope that we would now be able to drive completely around the lake. We drove up through rain but the temperature was still in the 50’s so we were hopeful. We were partially rewarded. On Wednesday we had been able to traverse only a short bit of road on the very west edge. Today a large section of the East Rim Road was open, all the way to Skell Lookout, about half way around the lake. We had debated on the drive up about how the...

Jun 21, 2012 - The Road Trip Heads South to Roseburg

We were all up and ready to continue our “road trip”. Today we headed south to Roseburg and High Street’s job at the Reustle (pronounced like Russell) Vineyards the elephant stomp “wine release” party. The game plan was to take the scenic coast highway 101 south for a while before heading back east to catch I-5 and make time to reach our destination! Overall a five hour journey! Our first stop was in Cannon Beach to see Haystack Rock. Cannon Beach is a really pretty and quaint artist community with the main draw being the broad three-mile...
