Aug 9, 2012 - Rogue River, OR

After an action packed visit to Crater Lake, we followed the Rogue River and relaxed at Valley of the Rogue State Park for a few days. It was hot (90) through the days, but cool (50) at night. There were blackberry bushes everywhere! I picked 2 huge bowls of blackberries to our niece Georgia we visited afterward in CA.

Aug 3, 2012 - Travel day

Uneventful day - easy travel - 280 miles. It's a one-night stopover - we all need to empty the holding tanks after dry camping for 6 days. Nice campground on the river - in fact that is what the view is from our front window. good facilities - including WiFi and cable. It was much warmer today than it has been. At Peter's we were wearing sweatshirts - not today. Time to turn the AC again. Short travel day tomorrow - about 55 miles

Jul 5, 2012 - Rogue River, OR

Usually we stay at Rogue River State Park but we decided to try Bridgeview this time. It is right on the river and most of the sites would be tight for a rig our size. However when I called, since we didn't need sewer, the owner, Georgia, said she would put us in "dry dock". Well dry dock turned out to be the parking lot right outside the office. And we were not alone there. Al, Georgia's husband, took our 50 amp plug and water hose over the hill down to the regular level of the sites and plugged us in. Al and Georgia were a unique...

May 30, 2012 - Rogue River State Park

This is a quick update to let everyone know we have safely arrived in Oregon. We drove about 180 miles, some of it was very steep with a lot of climbing. We got up to an elevation of about 5,000 feet before flying back down. :-) We have very slow Sprint, it is taking forever to add pictures. I will add more from the trip later. We will be exploring Crater Lake for the next few days. More Added: June 3........................ We are staying at the Rogue River State Park. Our first site was right on the river, but we had to move in two days,...

Apr 30, 2012 - Camping on the Rogue River

well, near the river is more like it. Why stop here for a few days? It is about 200 miles from Red Bluff. There does seem to be a pattern. The Valley of the Rogue State Park is so green and not very busy. Most of the loops are still closed. This is our 2nd visit and will be a nice place to spend a few days.

2012 Explorations

Sep 26, 2011 - Rogue River, OR

Yep, we have finally left Salem and are camped on the banks of the Rogue River near the little village of Rogue River (between Medford and Grants Pass) at the Valley of the Rogue State Park. We are here awaiting the arrival of HitchHiker friends and looking forward to getting caught up and making new memories while gathered around the evening campfire. We also plan to visit the old gold rush town of Jacksonville. The 200-mile drive was all on I-5 and we discovered that a lot of what we traveled had been resurfaced this year and is pretty...

2011 Explorations

Sep 15, 2011 - Visiting Joan & Gary

We left Sept. 4, headed up to Oregon and visited with Teresa's sister, Joan, and Joan's husband, Gary. They live in Rogue River, which is north or Medford and south of Grants Pass. The weather was very warm and we stayed at Valley of the Rogue State Park which is right on the Rogue River. It is a great park and we highly recommend it if you are ever in southern Oregon. There are blackberry bushes everywhere and we picked berries and made wonderful homemade pies from them. On Sunday, Sept. 11, we took a jet boat ride up the Rogue River...

Aug 7, 2010 - Rogue River, Oregon

We arrived at one of our favorite spots, Valley of the Rogue State Park. The park is huge with great sites. We love the River walk. Fond memories of when we took Abby on walks, she loved to get in the water. We enjoyed fresh wild Oregon blackberries along the trail. This time we rode our bikes on the new paved trail to the town of Rogue River. It was beautiful, it followed the Rogue River to the north for about 4 miles.

Mar 26, 2010 - A Day Off

From Valley of the Rogue State Park, at I-5 just west of Medford, Oregon. It has been a long, long time since I thought in terms of “needing a day off”. After eighteen consecutive days in which each one had some agenda for us, we were ready for an “off” day. After checking the weather forecast last night & finding that the forecast for Saturday was much nicer than it was for today, we thought that we would explore some area around the park today & go to Crater Lake on Saturday. Instead, I think that both of our bodies were telling us that...

We're Wingin' It

Mar 25, 2010 - Shazam....Surprise!!!!

From Valley of the Rogue State Park, at I-5 just west of Medford, Oregon. It was a classic Gomer Pyle moment. Last night, when the winds got to blowing strong enough to rock Phae just before we were going to bed, I pulled up the weather report for Reno & other points west. It listed a Wind Advisory with winds gusting up to 75 MPH during the next 18 hours & an overnight low temperature of 39 degrees. As we looked out into the darkness, we could see what appeared to be dust blowing in the low light from the street lights. With all info that...

Rhino and Michelle, Gerry and Lorraine, Richard, Eileen, Darryl. The Californians that went were Gregg, Melissa, her son Nick, and Wiley and Tina. The weather was almost the hottest recorded in recent times. The main feature of this river is its coastal...

May 27, 2009 - Valley of the Rogue SP

Today’s 200 mile drive was a scenic pleasure. The atlas showed scenic drive once we got past Redding and that was certainly the case. It was a beautiful drive. We drove between 55 and 60 and stopped often at rest stops. JoAnn even made Doug stop to clean the windshield once so she could take pictures through it. It was especially fun to watch Mt. Shasta appear in our view and then hide from us and pop up again. We drove through Siskiyou Pass coming into Oregon. It was amazing but the hillsides turned green as we crossed the border. Prior to...
