Aug 8, 2017 - Rockaway beach

We took our time leaving Twin Harbors cg and stopped at Merinos in Westport for lunch. This is a seafood market where you could buy fresh seafood to eat right from the counter. So I had clam chowder, 2 oyster shooters and some of Bill's crab salad. The chowder was so thick you almost could eat it with a fork and it was delicious! The oysters we're great and Bill's Dungeness crab salad was perfect without the work. Before we left Westport, we drove over to the docks and found a boat selling fresh caught albacore tuna. Of course we had to buy...

Aug 22, 2016 - Tillamook

We went to Tillamook today with a goal of two destinations. The first stop was the Tillamook air museum. There was an astounding display of over 15 world war II aircraft, some cockpits that you could climb into and view, and a film about the history of the history of the building. The building itself is amazing. It is large enough to house 8 dirigibles and is the largest wooden structure in the world. During World War II the dirigibles could site German submarines and contact ships and other aircraft. It was a learning experience. Our next...

Aug 21, 2016 - Now in Oregon

What we thought would be a short drive today, a little over 100 miles, turned out to be a 4+ hour trip. There was a crazy amount of traffic and a lot of crooked road. It was, however, a beautiful drive, a lot of it along the Pacific coast. The bridge across the mouth of the Columbia River was 4 miles long and was very congested. It is the longest continuous three-span bridge in the world. Construction began in 1962 and was completed in 1966. It completed highway 101 and made it an unbroken link between the Canadian and Mexican borders. We...

May 14, 2016 - North Coast of Oregon

We moved on Sunday, again, leaving Chinook Bend and NO WIFI to head to Paradise Cove which is just north of Rockaway Beach. This is a simple park but we are on a bluff so we have a great view of Nehalem Bay. The bay is fairly shallow so we really notice the effects of the tide. It’s interesting to watch it change twice per day. Sometimes it looks like a large ocean area from our vantage point and at other times there are lots of mud flats. Of course there are lots of seagulls doing their fishing. We will be here until the 15th. On our first...

May 18, 2012 - Oregon Coast

The past month has been fairly evenly divided between Olympia/Western Washington and the Oregon coast. Our time near Olympia has been busy with visiting family and friends catching up on their latest comings and goings. We have also nearly caught up on the necessary annual visits to the various doctors and dentist (we are both in very good health for a couple of 70-year old coots!). We did spend one Saturday on the beach near Kalaloch, Washington. We participated in a Beach Cleanup Day with the National Parks Conservation Association of...

Going Down MC's-LANE

May 4, 2008 - Nehalem Bay, OR

This morning was sunny and beautiful and we couldn't resist the chance to begin our day with a walk on the beach. We headed to the Happy Camp Beach a short distance from our camp. It felt so good to walk in the sunshine and enjoy the air without being bundled up. I actually took my shoes off for the first time in weeks. John will have to start wearing his pedometer (peter meter according to Manuel) again. Before he hurt himself, we were up to 18,000 steps a day. We have set a goal to get there again. The tide was really low this morning and...
