May 13, 2017 - Day 14 - Baker City to Oxbow, OR

Today’s ride to Copperfield Campground, near Oxbow Dam, was a frigid 68-mile ride with 3,166’ of ascent (almost ½ of which was on one climb). Oxbow Dam is a hydroelectric run-of-the-river rockfill dam on the Snake River on the Idaho-Oregon border, in Hells Canyon. The dam is part of the Hells Canyon Project that also includes Hells Canyon Dam and Brownlee Dam, built and operated by Idaho Power Company. After stopping at the Emmett Public Library, Gem County Museum and Micky D's (sign of civilization), we were off again headed west & then north to McCormick Park (Idaho Power Co.) located at the base of the Brownlee Dam on the Snake River. The most amazing thing about Idaho is the arid landscape with sagebrush, etc and the creeks and rivers that flow in the...

Sep 2, 2006 - Oxbow, Oregon to Kooskia, Idaho

After a day to relax, clean up and organize stuff that we didn't do before leaving, we crossed into Idaho, heading east and then north along the Seven Devil's Mountains to Kooskia on the Lochsa River. When Lewis & Clark descended west from Lolo Pass, they followed the Lochsa, but on the ridges to the north, not on the river itself.
