Sep 11, 2015 - Refrigerator repairs

We were up early and had a full pot of coffee ready with pastries to keep Bob and I somewhat nourished as we tackled our refrigerator problem. Some of you may remember when we were in Sitka earlier this summer, we had developed a leaked. Well I took copious notes from the Kitchen Aid dealer there, who also sold me the p-trap type part we will install on the refrigerator. I also spent time on the phone with the Winnebago factory in Forest City, Iowa, learning how our refrigerator was installed in the motorhome and fastened securely to the...

Aug 30, 2015 - Clackamette Park on the Willamette River

We checked into the Clackamette City Park on the Willamette River for a week plus while we do errands in the Portland area. While we were here, there was a car show next door in the park during the Labor Day weekend. We found a lot of memories and nostalgia and you probably will too as we you look at the pictures. We'll be here until Sept. 8.

May 28, 2014 - Clackamette City Park

Once the plans were placed in motion for repairing the MH, we rolled out of the RV Corral and found our way onto I-5 north for a short drive to Oregon City. There are very few RV parks in the Portland Metro area, but we have found Clackamette City Park meets our needs for proximity to Gail & Bob. Situated at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas Rivers, this little city park is a great location. It only has 30 amp power and water, but for a short stay, no problem. We enjoyed a quick visit with Gail & Bob and a great meal at a...

Nov 1, 2013 - Our planning process

Yesterday was spent learning about our new complicated thermostat to monitor the environment within our new home. There are 3 zones, each with a separate setting that can be made on the thermostat. The big change this year was to make it entirely electronic rather than the old manual system. Well if you are less than 12 years old, this is easy, but if you are over 50, then the 6 steps to control each function becomes more complicated. Fortunately, we were referred to Ed at Laurelhurst RV HVAC that spent the day giving us an in depth...

Jul 31, 2013 - Oregon City, Oregon

We had to drive to Oregon City to return a counterfeit knife I (Mike) bought at the Reedsport, Oregon Chainsaw Sculpting competition. Benchmade, the maker, asked me to return it so they could prosecute the counterfeiter. They gave me a deal on a real Benchmade knife and gave me over $50 of free merchandise. We ate lunch at Stone Cliff a Log Cabin Restaurant overlooking the Clackamas River. We had ribs with a Sour Black Cherry BBQ sauce. As we were driving back to the coast we saw a fire along the freeway, we were lucky, they shut down the...

Jul 29, 2013 - Clackamette County Park

Entry written 8-16-13 Andrew and Tybee's wedding was a beautiful family event. They managed to find ways to pull each of the large family attending to lend support in setting up, decorating and then ultimately, celebrating. It was a fun time sharing with everyone. Then Sunday afternoon, all the celebration seemed too much for Debbie. By 7 PM, she was feverish and very un-well. There was discussion about heading to the ER, but realizing the waits would probably be worse than any cure, so I, with Bev & Debbie's suggestions, opted to take her...

Jul 20, 2011 - Clackamette City Park, Oregon City, Oregon

Since we have been busy with family and absent wifi, this entry is being made after our departure from Portland earlier today (Friday). We enjoyed an Oregon City park, Clackamette Park right on the Willamette River where the Clackamas River joins in. While this is in an urban area, the setting is very nice with 30amp power and water. A dump facility is nearby at the gate to the park. Our home faced the river and was an enjoyable location from which to visit and get some big city errands done at the same time. One evening, we enjoyed a nice...

Sep 30, 2010 - Leaving finally

Sep 30, 2010 8:30 a.m. 69708 207.6 We are headed to California for a month, family visits, National Parks and an IOBG meeting. A lot of this journal will be written by RG, unless he has to stay in the RV while Mike and I sightsee. Hi, well I guess it is the day we are going to leave for California. I am not sure if I want to go or not so I tried to hide in the storeroom, but Mom found me. So here I am in the RV in Mom’s lap. I do get to stop and see Aunt Candy on the way today so that is a good thing. Weather is sunny with clear skies....

Apr 12, 2010 - Stopped by Oregon Trane

We had three or four serious downpours during the night but today was partly cloudy all day with a mixture of great big white clouds and rain clouds. We were late leaving Armitage RV Park in Eugene this morning, we are only going as far as Portland today which is about a 100 mile drive up I-5 through the Willemette Valley. We've seen huge flocks of Canadian Honkers headed south, it is a nice drive through the valley with some agriculture, some cattle and a lot of sheep, I didn't realize Oregon had so many sheep. Our first stop in Portland...

Speedy Lube, Raspberries and Honeyman State Park: We want to get a decent spot in line for our RV lube job at “Speedy Lube” outside of Portland so head south by 8:30 am Tuesday October 20 and are fortunate to get in right away. We take a short drive in “Frosty” and locate some fresh raspberries (Jim’s favorite). Jim gets a special “Cat” coffee cup from “Speedy Lube” because he has a Caterpillar engine. Fortunately, no problems are found and we are on our way toward the coast within a couple of hours. We plan to spend the night in the Oregon...

Oct 20, 2009 - Clackamette Park in Oregon City, Willamette Valley and Portland Oregon

CLACKAMETTE PARK: We are grateful to our Rock Spring friends, Barbara and John Cullicott, who recommend the beautiful Clackamette Oregon City Park, right on the river across from their lovely home in Lake Oswego. After the local farmer's market and touring some historical sites, we enjoy dinner at their home, catching up with them and learning about some of the local color. We conclude our visit with a picnic at our riverside campsite. OREGON CITY, OREGON: Oregon City is built along Willamette Falls. Transportation of electricity from the...

Jul 12, 2009 - Oregon City

Today was our first rainy day in Oregon so instead of exploring the Columbia River Gorge we went to Oregon City and visited the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. Right here is where thousands of pioneers ended their journey , registered land claims and began their new lives. George Abernathy was the first governor of Oregon country and he let emigrants set up camp on his property in what is now known as Abernathy Green. The Center is comprised of three buildings in the shape of covered wagons. First we saw a movie called "Bound...
