Today we went to see where the boys lived in Nyssa, OR. They lived there two times, once in a little house that had an outhouse (but it was gone), and once they lived in a real house in town. The little house had been fixed up be someone, but they didn’t live there any more. The house in town was a little changed, second story, garage was moved, but it looked the same. They had a chicken farm then and raised the chickens for the eggs. They remember having to buff the poop off the eggs. It wasn’t a big farm or anything. It sounds as if they...

Alaska Trip

Aug 28, 2014 - Nyssa, OR.

We didn’t do much today because of Don’s back. But we did go up the Lewiston grade which is now called the Spiral Highway. Gives you some idea of the highway. It is 10 miles of twisting and turning. When we got to the top we saw a sign that said the original highway was laid out by a man that had laid out several railroads and did it in 1918. It turns around these hills like we saw yesterday and rises 2000 feet in 10 miles. The boys remember going down the Lewiston grade when they were kids going to see relatives. August 28 It was a...
