Jun 5, 2012 - Oregon Coast
I am happy to report we are having a much better day today. :-) It is cool, in the 50's, with wonderful sunshine, nice jacket weather. We went whale watching and spotted three gray whales, I got a picture of the tail of one of them at least. :-) We saw tons of seals sunning on the beach and rocks, plus a ton of birds. They are all over the rocks breeding. Some of them look like Puffins, not sure what they are yet. Still working on the books to identify. This part of Oregon is breathtakingly beautiful. We are enjoying this incredible area...

Jun 4, 2012 - Rainy Travel Day!
Today was a long (250 miles) driving day. It was a beautiful drive along the new Oregon Umpqua Scenic Byway. It runs along the Umpqua River and became a new byway as of April 2008. The new designation applies to the stretch of road that begins in Oakland, runs down to Sutherlin, follows highway 138 to Elkton, and finally goes along Highway 38 to Reedsport, Oregon. We had so much rain today, it was coming down like cats and dogs. :-) We could hardly see the river. I did manage to get a few pictures along the way, please pardon all the...

Jun 3, 2012 - Newport, Oregon
It has been about six years since we’ve been on the coast and seen the ocean. While we were living in California, our weekend getaways were often to Monterey, Carmel or Big Sur. So we were a little giddy when we arrived in the coastal town of Newport. We first took a walk along Newport’s old bay front. This area is only a few blocks long and is an interesting mix of souvenir shops, seafood restaurants, a Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and a few higher-end galleries. However, although the bay front is geared to tourism, what sets this area...

May 16, 2012 - The ocean!
WE finally made it out to the coast. The Oregon coast is spectacular! The campground had a trail that led down to the beach - very convenient. We spent the next few days sightseeing around the area, including a trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, followed by a wonderful fresh-caught seafood lunch!

Mar 21, 2012 - Rain, Rain, more Rain
We have never seen it rain so hard! Roads are flooding. Waterfalls are where waterfalls shouldn't be. The ocean waves are really big and vicious! Tonight we are in a really nice campground right at the calif. border. Tomorrow we enter California, and won't complain about the high gas prices, if it will bring us the sun!

Rainy Day.... Struck out at the Tillamock Cheese Factory {closed for repair work}. Had our pick of sites at South Beach state park at Newport. Gathered up all our warm clothes and walked the dogs on the beach. This place would be fantastic on a nice day. Weather is not suppose to improve tomorrow,so we will continue south on our quest for better weather!

Best Laid Plans............... and all that. We left Warrenton yesterday afternoon with the expectation that we would arrive at Newport in time to get set up at the Port of Newport Marina and RV Park in time to make it to the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival at 6:00 pm. I purchased tickets online for the event. Well, when we were ready to leave Warrenton I discovered I could not find the keys to the RV. Before leaving, I searched high and low with no luck; being sure they would somehow show up, we left for Newport, but were about an hour...

Dec 15, 2011 - Now on the Coast!
We woke up Thursday morning to find we had missed seeing a light snowfall during the night - because everything looked like it was coated with powdered sugar! The sun, however continued to elude us for the better part of the day as we drove over to the coast. We stopped several times along the way for photo ops - including a stop at Multnomah Falls where we had some hot chocolate. We had stopped earlier at another waterfall (Horsetail Falls) and while we were there we heard a train coming - and the tracks were right behind us so I turned...

This Oregon Coast is so INCREDIBLY AWESOME it almost takes your breath away. So much Surf, so much pristine beach and So many Sunsets. I read the other day that "If you're lucky enough to live at the beach, you're lucky enough." So true. But I love living in the mountains too. If one could only live in the mountains in the summer and at a warm beach in the winter THAT would be lucky enough. The walk down to the Devils Churn was almost as amazing as the inlet itself. The forest; the mossy trees, walking down a winding dirt path listening to...
