May 26, 2010 - Harry & Davids and Dogs for the Deaf - Medford, OR

We left Salt Lake City in a pretty heavy snow storm. Heard later that the 1977 record was broken. Last year we hit snow this time of year in Lassen - not far from Salt Lake. We had planned on going through Crater Lake today even though the campgrounds aren't open til mid-June. Bob and boys actually swam in the ice cold lake 25 years ago, but we wanted to see it again. However, snow was heavier there and predicted for 4 more days - so gave up on it and went to Medford, OR for 2 very interesting tours. Passed through the Bonneville Salt Flats...

May 20, 2010 - Hurry up and Wait!!

Waiting for a big trip is nerve wracking. We had three months to get everything done. We made lists: his lists, her lists, our lists, priority lists, mother's lists, house lists, RV lists..... you get the idea. We resorted to making a list of the lists! And of course there was plenty of time to get all the stuff on the lists done, right? For some reason, we thought so too - until it was three weeks to departure date and not much had been done. A priority for us was to do something with our laptop; it was moving really slowly. Part of the...

Apr 20, 2010 - Into Oregon

Tuesday, April 20, rough trip into Oregon. Woke up to rain and a temperature of 49. The rain continued all day and the temperature dropped to 40 degrees by the time we arrived at our evening destination, Medford, Oregon. Before I tell you about the day, let we tell you about an event that happen a few days ago. This past Saturday, as we left Death Valley from the South West exit we passed by a town named Trona. As we drove by Trona I thought that something terrible had happened here. What we saw was an empty town with cars here and there...

Mar 6, 2010 - Portland, Or To Phoenix, Or

After another delicious camping breakfast, Joanne and I headed out of Portland on route to Medford, Oregon which is approx. 275 miles. (plenty long enough for us). Our trip was very interesting to say the least. We had a very relaxing day with a couple of stops for coffee and lunch. One interesting spot was the rest area in Albany, Oregon (that section of I-5 is part of the BLUE STAR MEMORIAL HIGHWAY system which honours U.S. Veterans. While taking a break in Albany we spotted a little visitor booth built in the same style as most houses in...

Here in Medford to visit Charlie & Mary Sinclair who we met thru BK and bicycling. Both retired, Charlie was a prof at Cornell in Ithica, NY...the physics dept. when we visited them there some years back. Just to give a hint to his background I found the following: "Charlie Sinclair's contributions to the physics and technology that has been at the heart of major advances in nuclear and particle physics for the past four decades have been known by his colleagues all along but seldom celebrated! On the eve of his departure from Jefferson Lab...

Good News Bad News We are on our return path back to Mesa and the GOOD NEWS is: We were able to get together with friends Steve and Leeann in Medford again. The BAD NEWS: We are on our return path home due to a dental emergency--it seems some of the work done in the past by Jane's dentist who shall remain unnamed did not hold up and some work needs to be done right away. Darn! We left Oregon in a hurry with only time for lunch with Steve and Leeann--we met them at the airport where they have some "toys" as you can see in the pictures! We...

Ron & Jane's Travels

Jun 29, 2009 - Medford OR

Medford Oregon is one of our favorite stops. We always look forward to getting together with friends LeeAnn & Steve. Every year it seems we have more good conversations, great food and memorable times! One of our favorite places....,p. While we had visited historic Jacksonville a couple of years ago, it is always nice to return to this clean and colorful city--one of the very few places in the US where the entire city is named a National Historic Landmark. Jacksonville was the main community in southern Oregon, originally settled due to...

Jun 10, 2009 - Harry & David Store & Other Stuff!

Originally, we were going to Crater Lake today, but the weather forecast up there is pretty bad and suppose to be better tomorrow, so we are going to wait. Mostly stayed around the camper today and rested, but did make one side trip to the Harry & David Factory Store. Yesterday and again today, we had to buy gas for the Jeep before we headed out. We discovered something fascinating - in Oregon, they have people who pump your gas for you. It is a $500 fine for both the customer and the station if you are caught TOUCHING the pump. WOW! Today...

May 27, 2008 - Medford

We made it to my hometown, I was born here, as were three generations before me, all in the same hospital, as were both of my children. I haven't lived here in 16 years now, but it's still home to me. We came across following the various rivers, mostly the Smith River, various forks of same, and then over the mountains to the big town of Applegate. Ha, don't blink, you'll miss it. We stopped at one of the places I went often growing up, the Applegate River, which was just up the road from my house, and in the summer we would jump in the...

Nov 6, 2007 - Medford, Oregon - McDreamy Needs Some Work

We headed out today for Medord because that is where the closest Freightliner dealer is -four hours away! We decided to spend the night and hope we will be able to go over to Crater Lake National Park on Wednesday after they finish with the truck. With Danica's help and her family rate, we were able to spend the night at the Fairfield Inn in Medford. I truly enjoyed the wonderful shower with all that water pressure. It is just a touch of heaven. Well, when we arrived at Witham's Truck Center, it didn't look good for getting it fixed. Even...

We got an early start and hit it hard for about 80 miles to Medford Oregon. We were able to visit friends from Lakeside today. Dick and Bonnie and Joe and Bev all live in the same senior community here in Medford. Dick and Bonnie came to the Holiday RV Park where we are staying 2 miles south of Medford. We visited and then followed them back to their home where we met up with Joe and Bev. We all went out to dinner at the Sizzler and had a wonderful time! It was a full day and we got home about 7 in the evening. We will leave here tomorrow...

Oct 2, 2007 - On to Oregon

We traveled down I-5 (more rain) and ended up staying in Medford for the night. We stayed in a really nice KOA with lots of trees. So when it wasn't raining on us, we had blowing pine needles falling everywhere. Everything in the 5th wheel stayed put! I'm getting faster at putting things away and packing up.
