On our trek North, we stopped in Lakeside, Oregon to visit with Harold and Jane Mathews. We know them from San Diego. I worked with Jane for a while. We went on several bike trips together also. Harold also worked for the Water Utilities Department in San Diego. We had a great visit. They were in the process of remodeling their home in Lakeside and moving their stuff from Seattle to Lakeside, so they were staying with another friend in Lakeside. Aug 22, 2013 - Lakeside, Oregon

It is time to pick up stakes again and move south. Today is Wednesday and last night we had a wonderful meal at The Waterfront Depot: crab encrusted halibut smothered in a very tasty chili cream sauce. We drove a short distance to Lakeside, Oregon, just south of Winchester Bay. We arrived at North Lake Resort & RV Park, set up, had lunch, and drove to the Umpqua River Lighthouse. The docent, Bill, gave us a great tour of the lighthouse and surrounding area. Interestingly, this lighthouse is managed by Douglas County under a three year...

Oct 7, 2008 - Day 29 Cape Lookout OR to Lakeside OR

Day 29 (Tuesday, Oct 7) Dried out and got an early start again continuing down the coast. Loved Depoe Bay, OR as a big public beach famous for whale watching. Didn't see any but enjoyed a hot lunch of fish and chips (John) and crab sandwich and clam chowder at The Chowder Bar. Hit a few gift shops and continued stopping at overlook after overlook. So breathtaking – we think this is some of the prettiest country we've seen on the whole trip. Stopped at the Cape Perpetua visitor center sitting on the highest Oregon bluff over the ocean. Also...
