Jun 11, 2013 - Getting the Boot
Well we reached our 14-day limit at Collier State Park. We so enjoyed our stay there, but another great Oregon state park is our next destination. Today we had a short hop of about 70 miles north on Highway 97 to La Pine State Park. The park is six miles off the highway so we are in the boonies away from any highway noise. We made our reservation “site” unseen and ended up with the best site in the best of the three loops in the park. Once again we are on water. This time we are on the Deschutes River. There is much to explore in this area...

Jul 7, 2012 - Happy 4th of July !!
It has been several years since Pete & I have attended a 4th of July Parade, so it was time to enjoy one once again (we always stayed home because of our dogs, the sounds of the day usually scared them). We were able to leave Sadie in the 5th-wheel while we were gone, there are no fireworks allowed in Klamath County (where Big Pines RV Park is located). We drove a whole 17 miles into La Pine for the activities, we had such a good time. One of the floats (named the Band Of Brothers) had local La Pine Veterans aboard. As it got in front of...

Oct 2, 2011 - On the road again
We departed Likely Golf Course & Resort on Friday Sept 30th about 9:15 a.m. after a brief stop in Alturas for errands we hit the road with gusto! Though, we thoroughly enjoyed our summer working, for three "wunderlusts", it's nice to be on the road again. The 242 mile trip to our next stop, at Thousand Trails Preserve 6 miles north of La Pine, OR, was easy and fun. We know the weather is turning cooler way up here, gettin ready for winter, we are. But as I write this, brrrrrrrrr. We had 34 degrees last night and will have 65 today and...

Sep 24, 2011 - Day #16, 9-24-11
Day #16, 9-24-11 Today was not too ambitious. We got up about 7:30 to a very cold Motor home, turned on the heaters and warmed up over a cup of coffee! There was a strange unsavory sound coming from outside the Motor home at about 9:00am. I couldn’t identify just what it was but it was like fingernails on the chalkboard! I had amassed quite a collection of bugs on the windshield and front of the Motor Home. It was time to create a “fresh canvas” for the bugs, so I spent 45 minutes cleaning with class cleaner, a squeegee/scrubber and paper...

Sep 14, 2011 - Bull Bend State Park, OR
Bull Bend Campground is on the Deschutes River somewhat west of LaPine, OR. The first forest service road we turned on was closed. The second Mike and Sally actually got through but the rest of us turned around, not an easy feat when you are 53 feet long. The last road actually had a sign for Bull Bend but the last few miles of the road were like a dusty washboard. Fishing was tough. Murray caught a nice trout and Sally and Shelle caught 3 large crawdads. We had great hors d’oeurves that night. Richard and I had to drive into Bend one day...

Aug 27, 2011 - Day 88 - Sisters and Lava
Yesterday we drove the McKenzie Pass National Scenic Byway. We headed to Sisters about 20 miles west of Bend. We had heard that the Sister's Bakery was not to be missed, so that was our first stop. We purchased 2 fritters for $6 that were the best we have ever had and HUGE. We nibbled on one all day as we drove and saved one for today,, we each had 1/4 for breakfast and there is still 1/2 for tomorrow. Then we left out of Sisters which is a cute town with lots of little shops and restaurants on the Byway. The first stop was the Dee Wright...

Aug 25, 2011 - Day 86 - Newberry National Volcanic Monument
Today we visited the Newberry Caldera Area of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The monument is 50,000 acres and was dedicated 20 years ago. We started off visiting the Visitor Center. The center is in an old building and is only open Thursday through Sunday. We then stopped across the road at Paulina Lake boat launch and trail head. After walking around and spotting a baby frog we headed up to Paulina Peak Viewpoint. This was a narrow washboard road that led to beautiful views! The peak is 7984 ft. We could see the two lakes that...

Jul 18, 2011 - La Pine, OR Temp 70
We got up early to get the RV ready to leave. They've asked all 3089 RVs to be gone from the fairgrounds by 11 am. Bob had made an appointment to have the RV weighed this morning at 11 am. But he's sure they'll show up early. We had the rig weighed on the way across the country, but this will give us the weight on each wheel. Apparently this is something that is important to know so that each tire can be properly inflated. We're only driving 40 miles, so it was only about an hour drive. We had a few sprinkle on the drive but it really...

Jul 10, 2011 - Crater Lake
Sunday was Ron's birthday. We celebrated by going to Crater Lake. We left about 10 with Judie and Cal in their car. We stopped to pick up some Subs for the ride (plus some gas) and came upon a National Guard convoy headed to somewhere in CA to train. They were very good – staging all the trucks in the back parking lot and only using 2 of the gas pumps. But it is a busy Pilot station and chaos reigned. Inside was a hoot. Long lines of camo clad young men buying food for their trip. But everyone smiled and some of us thanked them and we...

Jul 9, 2011 - High Desert Museum - Bend
Saturday, Judie and Cal had some family stuff to do, so Ron and I went on our own to the High Desert Museum just south of Bend. First we tried out the new GPS thingy that attaches to the laptop. It makes a little red circle indicate where you are on the Streets & Trips map. I had tried one before but it wouldn't work on a previous laptop and version of S&T. Caroline suggested this one and I love it. It follows along and shows where we are in relation to the route on the map I have selected. No more “Recalculating” or indicating a route we...

Jul 8, 2011 - Twin Lakes Campout
We took Cal and Judie's Class C (well - we took our MH and they took the Class C) on its maiden voyage to Twin Lakes Campground in the Deschutes National Forest July 5, 6 & 7. It is a beautiful, quiet campground with tall pines. Love to hear the wind in the pine trees. I'm behind about 3 blogs so will try to get back to this one later - after I get the other blogs up.
