Apr 24, 2007 - We've arrived in Winchester Bay.

We actually had a pretty laid back day today, in spite of the repair and the move. We started the day talking to our neighbor who is a lady from Idaho who travels with a dog and a cat in her 36 foot Allegro Bus. I take my hat off to her, she travels alone all over the country and handles the big coach with no problem, even the technical stuff. She works as a camp host for 6 months of the year, that's her only income. Wow gutsy lady! We left for Gib's RV at 9:15 am and they took our coach in immediately. They told us to come back at 3 pm, so...

Living our RV Dream!

Oct 13, 2006 - Oregon Coast, Florence

This morning dawned with bright skies & warm temperatures...hurray. We like it to be that way on moving day. Judy came by to say our good byes. So sad to be leaving our friends but it is time to get on down the road. And we are excited to see all our family in Brookings. There's a new baby girl we need to see & the fish are biting too! We haven't made a decision on how many miles we'll travel today but we are shooting for Florence, about half the way to our final destination. They have an RV Park there that sounds nice & we like the 50%...

Oct 2, 2006 - Day 2 thru 8 - Winchester Bay, CA

Left Anderson and traveled to Winchester Bay, OR. Arrived in the late afternoon and found our on line (and now true) friend Padriac parked exactly where the GPS said he would be! We found a spot nearby and got set up. A really nice place to stay, no hookups where we were but only $12 per night. On a man-made spit of land that went out into Salmon Bay. We were near the end, and had a great view of the bay, boats, etc. Met some of the R(o)Ving Rods who were sponsoring the get together, a bunch of very nice people. This was basically a...

Jul 22, 2006 - Florence, OR

We stayed at the Elks campground in Florence, OR. Five nights. Jeanne has always wanted to ride a horse in the surf on the beach, so we signed up for a two-hour ride. Miser and Nougat got the call to carry us through the sand dunes and along the ocean's edge. The ride was great; the weather was downright cold as a forty-knot wind off the 50-degree ocean made it feel like we were riding in a freezer. Fortunately we were warned about this so we dressed appropriately. My horse, Nougat, was a former wild mustang from the Oregon range. I was...

Jun 3, 2006 - Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

June 3, 2006 We left our campground this morning and drove to Florence, OR. We didn't get very far when the Websters got a flat tire on their motor home. We pulled over to change the tire and we blew a fuse on our motor home. While Donald and Michael changed their tire on their motor home, Dave worked to change the fuse on our motor home. After an hour, we were back on the road again. We arrived at Happy Place RV Park in Florence, OR about 2:00. We hooked up the motor home and ate lunch. After lunch, we got in our cars and made a short...

May 23, 2006 - Oregon Coast

Tuesday, May 23, 2006 We drove Route 101 along the coast of Oregon as far as Yuchats, in the rain. The beginning was rugged rocks and cliffs and big surf, followed by the Oregon dunes section, which was interesting but quite "tame." We are camped near Cape Perpetua in a pretty wooded campsite beside a stream. It is unfortunately still raining, but the wetness makes the greens and browns in the woods even prettier. We took a short hike after supper to watch the ocean surf, rugged again. The plan is to drive all the way up the coast of...

Sep 19, 2005 - Lakeside, OR

Osprey Pt. RV Resort was an Adventure Outdoor Resort (AOR) for us. It is a very nice resort with sites to stay at overnight or you could buy a deeded lot (which were all sold). We rented a 22ft. pontoon boat to go "fishin", but we wound up just boating around the lake with the Chicky's without getting one nibble...so much for the fishing. North Bend, Coos Bay, and Winchester, OR were just miles away and made it easy to see some of the neat site. The Oregon Dunes near North Bend reminded me of the huge dunes we saw in Death Valley, CA.

Sep 17, 2005 - Trip South to the Umpaqua River Light

Took an afternoon ride south to Winchester Bay to the Umpaqua Lighthouse State Park. Walked through their museum in a converted Coast Guard Lifesaving station from the mid 1890's. Lots of artifacts from ships of the time. The 2nd largest gift shop of Lighthouse items in the continental US.

Aug 12, 2005 - Reedsport Rock

We spent the morning in Newport with Bob on the computer and me doing laundry in the same room at the marina. We left at noon and drove south on 101. A cold, chilling wind blew in from the ocean. We needed our fleece jackets every time we stepped out side. We stopped in Florence to buy groceries at Fred Meyer. Bob got gas there at $2.61 a gallon. The attendant told (you know that in Oregon an attendant pumps your gas for you) him that they had the cheapest gas in Florence and on the coast. He said in California some places were selling gas...
