Aug 1, 2016 - Cheap treats abound in southern Oregon towns

There are lots of great free and supercheap things to do (aka $10 or less) around Ashland. In Medford, the Holly Theater offered free tours once a month. Now that they have started renovations (thanks in large part to local Jim Balushi), it may be a while before visitors are allowed back in. No worries, there is so much else to do! The Historical Society offers a variety of free programs. I went to a fantastic presentation about women's fashions throughout the ages. The Harry and David plant offers $5 tours, where the curious can learn...

Aug 18, 2012 - Oregon's First National Historic Landmark Districts

After we calculated the drive (one-way) to Crater Lake being approximately 120 miles, we all thought it would be nicer to do something closer to the casino and not be in the car all day long, drive around the lake and then do the return trek! Jerry and I both knew we have more time in Grants Pass to allow us to visit Crater Lake and Steve and Linda opted to visit on their way back to Idaho! We moved from the coast to the Rogue River area for several days, and are now staying at a small, friendly park named Joe Creek Waterfalls RV Park. The park includes a privately owned creek and lovely waterfall! It also is hot here – we’ve been cool the whole time we were on the coastline of Oregon, but we have moved inland and summer finally caught up with us. Today was a day for riding and pretending we are “foodies” which we aren’t, but it sure was fun pretending. It also is the first day we have not had to wear our heavy jackets all day...

Jul 1, 2009 - Paragliding Tournament and Wineries

Had planned to tour the Harry and David plant in Medford today but they are shut down for the Fourth of July holiday (summer is not their busy season). Plan B was to tour the wineries of Applegate Valley in and around Jacksonville - a very cute town by the way. We stopped at the visitor's center for info and was told that a huge paragliding tournament was happening down the road and that a good vantage point would be the patio at Longsword Winery. Before this was set to begin we had time to go a mile up the road to Valley View Winery for a...
